Took a ride this weekend to Watch Hill. A few developments.

The concessionaire now controls Davis park. Non resident rate is 2 bucks a foot. Im told it used to be 4 bucks a foot. ( still doesnt sway my opinion )

No electric to the day slips
No change in slip sizes.
No bulk head upgrades were done.
Tons of sand washed tru the bulkhead on D dock. Slips are VERY SHALLOW .

Foot wash down station was added between A land and A peer .

You can now stay for 3 hrs after check out for 10 bucks per hr.

D pier was re-decked AGAIN to alleviate the ponding of water .

Mosquitoes and jelly fish were very pronounced !

Thats about it for the marina.

The Ocean beach took some serious hits over the winter. At high tide the water curls up to the dunes. A few more storms and there will be no beach. I took some pics and ill post later on. ITs pretty sad. ( makes it impossible to lay out at high tide on ocean side )

I don't know who to blame at Watch Hill, the concessionaire or the POS Superintendent. OUR government is intent on throwing away a valuable resource in the name of reducing THEIR carbon footprint. Such BS....

I was planning for Father's Day but am a bit concerned about the water depth on D dock now. Not too keen on sitting in the mud at low tide.

The dock masters thoughts are the incoming boats will blow out the slips.....

Many holes in that thought process. Main one being the HOLES are still in the bulk head allowing the sand to keep pour out.

Its pretty bad , we sat in the mud last year a few times.

.....plus the damage to your raw water pumps..........sucking up all that crap !!

We watched as a guy at Flynn's came in once and got stuck.
Dockmaster's response was to pull boat out a little, tie to poles so it wouldn't be able to go backwards, give it throttle in reverse, and blow mud out. After a few minutes, he got in but was still on bottom!
That has to do wonders for your intakes!
Plus sitting on the bottome i think screws up the bonding system since your grounded.

Why can't they blow it out at watch hill using the park ranger boat with outboards?

It's been shallow at D dock for a while but I've only touched bottom coming in a couple times that I remember and I don't remember ever feeling like I was sitting on the bottom. If my props were touching the mud must have been so soft I didn't notice.

To some extent the boats will probably blow the sand/mud around so it's not all where it is now... I won't be there till August, keeping my boat in Montauk for half the season, so I hope you guys do a good job of blowing out the slips before I get there :)

Dave, I'm planning on going to WH for Memorial Day. Anyone else?

Will be there on Wednesday. Looking forward to the run and some r and r.

Brian,
We'll be there.... And our little dog too...
I spoke with most of the people involved with Watch Hill. Have not heard anything negative. See you there.

As long as the weather is good we'll be there too.

Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Interested to hear any updates on the shoaling at D dock Rob reported.

Looking to go next week. Are the mosquitos winning the war? I would imagine that with all the rain we've had that they bigger, stronger and there are more than ever. Anyone care to give an update?

Mark,
Slips were fine on D dock, 39" draft boat never touched bottom. Mosquito's were non existent., Did have a nat or noseeme problem, but had that on the main land as well when I returned on Sunday, thinking the rain and the heat caused that.

Did not visit the restaurant, usually we do, but it looked like they were only offering two meals, coconut shrimp and flank steak (both $25.95), interested to know if it was good, especially the coconut shrimp. I like to eat with a group, especially my kids, kids have little to choose from, that too keeps me away.

Need to go with just my wife, meals in the past have been really good considering it is FI.

LOL... Walter, didn't u see Robs dog fall in the water? The dog was walking behind his boat. ( its a Yorkie )
