I don't know what's worse , the green flys or the skeeters

Rob

No See-em’s are just plain annoying. Skeeters are also, but do pose more problems with possible disease and for some people get welts. That really never happens with me. But Green Fly’s, especially over in the coves like Hemlock and Coast Guard or the slow parts of the channels are for me the worst. I have gotten bitten where it took months to heal and to this day I have some tiny scared bumps from them. I bet they are carrying some nasty crap, maybe not disease that we know of, but whatever gets under the skin is not good. At least that’s been my experience.

The only good thing about a greenhead is they are slow as sh!t and you get to kill them after they rip your skin apart with their viscous bite!

So true, they are slow, but tricky as they seem to get that bite in. Also if you swat them and they it the ground, they play dead... I have seen ones that I thought I killed come back to life and fly away. You need to stomp twice to kill and one more for good measure.

I think the greenies are worse this year than ever before.
My wife and I took a ride a few days ago and wanted to anchor west of the Amity Cut and south of the channel to watch my kids race sailboats. Between the heat and the green flies we had to turn around, head back to the dock, and head over by car to pick the kids up. This was in the middle of the afternoon and there was barely any breeze to help to keep them away.
It's been worse than ever this year. I wonder if it's the price we're paying for the mild winter we had.

We took a ride yesterday afternoon out Jones inlet to East Rockaway inlet and back to Freeport via Reynolds Channel. We were attacked at every 5mph zone and while waiting for the RR bridge. My wife had the swatter out and there are about a hundred less of them today.

It is worse than I can remember.

Rob, I made it over Tues night after 10. Tried a slip on A dock, but found it too rowdy. Went over to C17 and stayed till Friday morn.

Didn't realize until after I was tied in at C17 that I had about 4-6" of room between the piles. Talk about a tight squeeze!

4 to 6" is alot at Watch Hill.
They will usually give you a slip about 6" bigger than beam!

Dave, that's 4-6" one one side only. So I guess I got the norm.

Rob, I had my hands full with my grandson. Catch you next time.
