I recently purchased a boat with a single 50 AMP plug which is 50 Amp to 250. Watchhill is a 50 amp to a 125. Does anyone make an adaptor to convert a 50/125 dock recepticle to a 50/250 conversion.

I would check the Marinco website or maybe check with Les at boatfix.
 
I went through the same thing when I bought my boat 3 years ago, there is no adapter that will work in that situation. Watch Hill did put several electric towers on 'D' dock last year which are 50/250. I forget exactly how many, but there are 10-12 slips which I can use now and have power. There is an adapter, but you need 2 30 amp plugs to put into it to get 50/250. That is the big adapter that looks like a box. I have one, but problem is you can only use it if the slip next to you is empty so you can use 2 plugs, and that doesn't happen too often.

The good news is I haven't run into the problem anywhere else, normally places have 50/250. But for Watch Hill you're stuck except for those few 'D' dock slips.
 
Thanks guys, I called Marinco, they told me I need a 118A, it converts the 50/125 to a 50/250, by splitting the hot leads, what it means I don't know, but It will work. It cost $175.00.
 
It's amazing how much those adapters/y cords cost from marinco.
 
don i think that is not what he wants. watch hill has 50 a 120v svc. the marinco adapter listed looks right. I just dont get how it works? maybe someone else colud tell me i thought 250v has two hot legs of 120 V so out of phase so the differential is 250. the usual adapter take 1 hot leg plus neutral to form 2 30a 120 sockets? if you split one leg in watch hill wont both limbs be in phase and still be 120 and items in your boat expecting 250v wont see that voltage?
 
Yeah.....that adaptor is only for 30amp service....not 50amp.

But it would be handy in other marinas....

So it works but not for everything... On my boat I have a mix. Some things - AC, stove, water heater are 220v, but the rest - fridge, freezer, charger, etc are 110. So with one of these if I got stuck in a slip without the right power at watch hill I could at least use the fridge and freezer. But I think for $175 I'll skip it for now, there's always the cooler! I can run a regular wire to the charger the way I have it setup.
 
Let me hijack this thread.

I don't have shore power at my dock or AC power on my boat.

If I take my boat somewhere with shore power, can I use one of these adapters and an outdoor extension cord?

Just want to charge up a few things like the cell phone, handheld VHF, etc.

I would say yes, I purchased a similar adapter from Marinco, however the one you show seems to be more weather proof. The Marinco version was a strait 30A to 15 and about 5 inches. I use it to plug into an open 30 for power tool or portable radio / I-Pod player.
 
Brad the one he showed has a GFI ... I have the same as u... I use it power the foreman grill ...

Test outlets for juice..etc.... was cheap...

But to answer the question u can use it but its way overkill.

SV.....Marinco adaptor # 81A will work too.....with just a conventional extenstion cord.
 
The adaptor does not work. The boats electric will not work unless it has two hot leads. does anyone know which slips at Watch Hill have 50amp/250V service??

I think many of the large slips that recently had the stanchions changed last year on D - I think JohnC or Robski would know better...

Do I hear generator.... Hey Montauk YC is a weekend destination option, I bet you can even get a slip :--)

What's the story with MYC since they changed hands?

I have a reservation there for Labor Day weekend which is far away but...

Took the family out last year and stayed for a couple of days between Block and Greenport. It's definately alot quieter than it used to be. The food is pretty good albeit expensive and Star Island is across the street (kicking egg sandwiches and a great boat/fishing supply store.
Shuttle service to the town is free but not always there when you need it. Taxis are never a problem.
I recommend staying by the villas if you want a quieter stay. That's also where all the earthier full timers keep there boats so the dock chatter is good.
Good trip, and great spring point to other destinations.

Have not been there for a few years as we have been going to Star Island. Thought we would change it up a little this year and stay at MYC on our way back from Block. Just unsure what's going on since the place was sold.

It will be interesting to see what people's experience is like as they stay there this year. I read that the new ownership wants to cater to the mega-yacht crowd as they do with their other facilities.
