I have a '99 Wellcraft martinique 2600. There is a switch in the bathroom which in the down position turns on the water pump and the up position says head. It's a vacu flush head and you can hear the pump run when switched to the up position.

There is nothing in the manual describing this so do you normally leave the switch in the up position when on the boat (which I guess keeps the vacu flush operating and water pump going)? I've always just flipped the switch up when someone is going to use the bathroom and then switch it back off because I'm not sure the vacuum pump will shut off. How long does the vacuflush pump run before reaching proper vacuum? Maybe I have an airleak somewhere.

The switch should be the "Night" switch option. During the day you leave it on and at night you have no chance of the vacuum pump coming on and disturbing you it can be turned off. However the pump should stop running a short time after each flush. I never installed the option when I had a VacuFlush.

My pump ran about 2 minutes or less between flushes. If it doesn't shut off try replacing the duckbills there are 2 before the pump and 2 after.

If it's working properly, it should run between 30 and 60 seconds, then shut off - and stay off.

They've been known to kick on for a few seconds every so often when the seals or the duckbill valves in the vacuum pump assembly are worn. When it get to where they run enough to be an annoyance, then its time to service the head.

Several years back, SeaLand came up with what they called a "night switch" to turn off the system when you went to bed, so that you wouldn't be awakened during the night by the vacuum pump kicking on all bhy itself.

But overall, if they are in good shape and well-maintained, they are an excellent head, as many other RO's here will attest.
