1978 mercruiser 260 hp 350. about 2006 I put in new distributor with electronic ignition. no problem until last year and today. water in distributor cap. I live in central Illinois it does get humid but no problem until now. it is a non vented cap but I guess it has to be. any ideas please and thank you.

There will likely be a small screened vent or 2 in the bottom of the main dist. housing, and those should be kept clean to vent heat buildup and corrosive ozone gas.

Is the crank oil at all milky after the engine has run ?

Is this 38 yr old engine RWC and run mostly in SW?

If you wipe off the moisture and spray the inside of the cap with WD-40 and go for a run , is it dry when checked after or wet again?

Do you mean moisture, if so the cap gasket is bad, or the cap is not tight. Water in the oil is a real problem if you mean water.

crank oil is not milky only moisture in distributor. raw water cooled fresh water. when this happened last year I dried it out and wd 40 it ran ok until this time. I will check the gasket yes I guess moisture is better way to put it
