Here are the details, what do you think.
* 5.7 liter Mercruiser engine, raw water cooled.
* Found a water leak new the starboard exhaust manifold.
* Leak is NOT coming from the manifold. There is a steel plug (about 3/8 of in inch in diameter) that has a pinhole in it.
* This plug is removed directly by placing a rachet head in the plug and unscrewing
* Tried removing the plug and it is rusted in, it will not budge.
I have place high temprature sealent in the socket to stop the leak. I let the sealent cure for 48 hours. I ran the boat today for a solid 20 minutes which included running the engine at about 3000 rpm's which is my normal cruising range. I noticed one drop of water from this sealed hole about every fifteen secionds. I plan on putting another coat of sealent on tonight to hopefully stop the drip.
My question is this
1) Do you think this will hold?
2) Is there anyother way I could remove this plug and replace it?
3) Do you think I will have to drill and retap?
