My new W'beke 5.0 LoCO gennie is low on coolant and oil. The "mechanic"who did the install never topped things off. NO..... His shop will never touch anything I own again. I'd rather go down with the ship.

The coolant is yellow. My Merc coolant is red. Can I mix the two. I have memories of Northstar jello running through my head. My owner's manual is no help.

WRT the oil. W'beke calls for straight 40 weight. Damned if I can find it. Is tha an absolute. I don't know a lot about petro chemistry and am looking to the experts here for answers.

TIA

Straight 40W should not be that difficult to locate. Try online if need be. S/b easily accessible. Use the web.

Walmart carries Rotella in straight 40 weight. They have it in quarts and gallons. You can get it online or ship it to your local store.

Great thanks!!!

I'll check Walmart. Actually, never thought of Walmart.

Any input regarding yellow coolant?

TIA

I'm certainly not an expert on antifreeze. I believe the Dex type of antifreeze starts out bright orange. I imagine it could turn a shade or two with time. The other type of antifreeze is green. If I had to guess, and I'm totally guessing, I'd say you already have a Dex type of antifreeze since neither is green.

David,
Read this on another site, may be of some help to you. H

Me: I need some coolant. Which of these 2 (red or pink) does my vehicle take?
Toyota Parts Counter Guy: For your 2002? I think that just takes the plain old green stuff.
Me: There's red coolant in there now.
Toyota Parts Counter Guy: Then yours takes red.

Coolant - if it were my engine I would find out exactly what was put into the cooling system by brand and type. IF that was not possible I would drain the system and add the appropriate coolant mixed with DI water for my application. Today antifreeze has too many configurations with overlapping 'colors' to risk such a mess for such an easy solution. There are many articles out there describing the antifreeze confusion and problems that can occurr - here is just one of them...

David: I found an extensive tech manual for your genny but still no info on the coolant requirements. I and attaching the link in case you dont have it. Lube oil specs ,, pg85, are clear but surprisingly no coolant specs for a multi material engine. dont have time to look further.
