Well, we are back, safe and sound. Only boat trouble was my impeller on my genny, which I fixed at the dock.
Trip Summary:
Day 1: Tried to head out FI Inlet at 10AM. Fog was messing with electronics. Was real thick and could not trust them. We rafted up at Sore Thumb and waited 2 hours for it to clear a little. Went back out, no issues going out inlet, but when we turned east we hit a wall of fog. Since seas were high, we decided it was not worth it and came back in. By now it was around 2:30, so we decided to call Brad at Watch Hill to see if Fog was lifting to the east. There was no fog in the bay west of RM bridge. We had a 4:30 high tide in Moriches, so we decided to go for it. Got as far as Bellport Bay and the fog was back, real thick. We were doing 8knots in the fog, could not see buoys at all. I called Sea Tow and asked for a guide through. He met us at Green 15 in Moriches and guided us through the tricky spot. Fog lifted when we got past moriches, but now it was 6:30PM and we decided, to call Frank and go into WHB for the night, we were suppose to be in Greenport.
Day 2: Headed for Greenport. Hit the locks with with water flowing like we couldn't believe. There was white wate rapids in the canal and just before it. Boats were getting spun around! We throttled up, barreled through, no issues, slight underwear stain! Pulled into Greenport, Townsends and spent the night.
Day 3: Headed for Newport. Following Seas. Not bad, but got rougher around Port Judith.
Day 4: Newport
Day 5: Newport. We heard the next day winds were going to gust to 30mph, so we cut Newport short a day and headed to Riverhead, our final stop. Hit fog and had to slow it down to a crawl. There were alot of boats out there, seas were calm, but fog was thick. Pulled into Riverhead, Treasure Cove, nice place.
Day 6: Riverhead. Frank Mundus, the great white shark guy was there at Atlantis. Cool guy. If anyone is there, stop and talk to him and buy some of his stuff. He is a little down on his luck. I guess there is no 401K in shark fishing. I am reading his book, which he autographed for me.
Day 7: Riverhead (Fourth of July)
Day 8: Headed for Home. Locked through. Looked foggy outside, went inside again. Moriches is really not bad. We could see buoys fine, they are well spaced and easily seen. We stayed on plane the whole way through, no issues, no touching bottom. It was dead high when we hit it at 12:00, which is 2 hours past high at Coast Guard Station. It's really very easy if you stay in the channel and hit it at high or close to high on either side. Moriches water is very clean and clear. Continued for home, no issues.
All in all, good trip. Riverhead is great place for kids with Atlantis. Newport is cool, Gizmo and I walked the entire Cliff Walk! I didn't have a camera, but Walter did, so maybe he will have some pics to post.
Total Gas Burn: about 325 gallons
