saw a sea lion in the southern part of Steamboat Slough yesterday, got a picture but was just to far away for it to be any good. Was he lost or do sea lions swim in fresh water?

Yeah, the furbags are quite common here in the Delta.

We often times see them right here in the bays in Disco Bay. Plenty of fresh fish for them to munch on...

And no one can forget Humphrey. We saw him first hand when he made his trek into the Delta many years ago.

There are almost always a couple hanging out on/around the navigational buoy on the San Joaquin at the Old River. My boys always like to go pay them a visit.

Haven't seen them this year yet in Disco Bay, but I did last year. Was swimming in the cove and the thing popped up about 10 feet away from me and just went about his business.

Maybe they just aren't going into Disco Bay this year because there are too many weeds choking it in. :(

For the most part they follow the strippers migration up into the delta. As long as there are plenty of fish to eat, they will hang around. When the larger fish go back down to the bay and ocean, most of the sea lions follow them down stream too. There seem to be a few who prefer to summer in the delta, but they will always be where their food supply is plentiful!

we see them every weekend in discovery park. they go up the american to do some fishing.

They get into Oxbow on occasion. I also see them sunning on the buoys on the Stockton deep water channel. I was cruising down Georgiana Slough a few years ago and saw what I thought was a big log floating along the side. Cruised over and found it to be an expired sea lion.

An expired seal, does that mean he was no longer water tight?

(note to self, never do this while drinking)

We have a pair (male/female if size means anything) living on our dock at River view Marina. Right in front of our boat. They ignore us, we ignore them. Dogs too.

I think it is time to remove them protected status. Currently it is illegal to even chase them off a dock with a fire hose, etc. They are definitely NOT endangered or diminishing.
