As my dear friend Chris Walsh alluded to in another thread, yes, I have become famous this month, and an article has been written about me in the April issue of Boating on the Hudson magazine. They usually post the latest edition online but it is not there as of this writing, but maybe by the time you read this it will be:

If you read the "Ask Dr. Gel" column, you will read about my mishap from last fall (you might remember that one 'cause I posted it on here). Since everything was such a comedy of errors, between how I smacked up the boat and then how it became full of ice during winter storage, I was teasing Dave and Dee Weakley that my story would make a great article for them. A few days later Dee called me back and said they wanted to take me up on that!!!

Why is it that the only two times my boating activities have made the printed media is (1) the time my boat caught fire in 1991 and we were rescued/towed in by the West Point party boat, and (2) when I run aground while anchored in the damn river???

I always figured I'd win accolades for my superior boating prowess, or for rescuing 50 people from a sinking ferry in a display of impeccable seamanship [:-captain]. Oh well...

The April issue is at most marinas that get it now, Still not on the web site...

There is no such thing as "bad press"

UPDATE! THE ISSUE IS ONLINE. Now you can all read of how I made an a$$ of myself...

LOL Pete..... I scanned through it a few weeks ago when I got my pre-press proof but reading it the second time...... Gotta love it! Just don't do it again, ok? ..... poor old boat.

Yeah, that wasn't the best way to end your season ;) ...

Oh well, thanks to Dave's hard work she'll be ready to go in no time. I hope the weather clears so I can get the covers off of the boats tomorrow...

How have you been? Good luck with your season, Ken...

Pete ,
Glad to hear you made it back up the creek, without getting yor feet wet.

Yeah, according to Dave Weakley we did come awfully close, though!!!

Interestingly enough, those old Glastrons supposedly have positive foam floatation. I know there is foam under the gunwales although it is old and crumbly now after 33 years in service. I'm glad I didn't have to test it...

Pete- doing fine thanks for asking. Getting to work on the out drive and a few other odds and ends. Should be floating by the end of the month with a little luck.

Hey KD, How is the resturant up there at Coeymans ? Seems like it had a good crowd in the outdoor part the last time I passed up that way ,and always wondered, I like laid-back family type places ( nothing to fancy for me ) can you dock to eat. Good to hear you'll be floating soon , thats always a good feelin :) Jon

Jon,

Yanni's is a great place to grab a bite.... The atmosphere is casual and very unique. We are, naturally, always hanging out there and have a great time. They have something for everyone and are reasonable on the prices.

Sure, you can dock at the very end of either of the southern most docks. Call on 16 or 68 and they can help you in and find you a place to tie up.

Thanks KD , sounds like my kinda place , mabey catch up with you for a beer there this summer, sooner or later I'm get up there and check out that cool looking anchorage between houghtaling & lower schodack isl. for a night , looks like a great place to fire up the BBQ & relax. Thanks to you buddy ! :) keep ya posted if you'd like... Jon
