2002 sea Ray amberjack with 40 hours..

Starboard engine
200 170
175 150
180 140
153 150

Port engine
163 145
150 130
153 125
160 145

All over the board. They fogged the cylinders with valve tech and feel that will clean out "carbon deposits" and balance the cylinders compression.
Again boat only has 40 hours. Obviously has been sitting a lot since 2002.

What would you guys do?!

It's possible that the rings have taken a set from sitting so long. I wouldn't be afraid, if you run it they will improve after some hours. I would take it make sure all maintenance is up to date and run it with some WOT runs to try and reseat the rings. How is the condition of the entire boat?

Assuming they have not been run the only thing you know from the data is that rings and top end are ok. After it is run for a while they will probably even out.

Sea trial today went horribly wrong. One engine died and we found oil in bilge and the oil on dip stick turned milky.

I walked away...

Or , the sea trial went horribly right. It all depends on how you look at it. Saved you a ton of money down the road.

Indeed the sea trial did what we all hope. it uncovered problems before buying. Strange that there was no report of water when cranking for the comp test.

Bruce without the raw water pump spinning up (to speed) I would not be surprised. That and perhaps backing off plane allowed the water in. Seen that in Mainships.

This could merely be something waiting to happen that the owner did not plan on because the last time it ran it was fine. Damn shame but it happens.

Could offer to walk back if the boat's repowered. If you really want an Amberjack...

bb you're right it is possible though if there was previous water ingestion I would expect frozen rings, valves etc though in freshwater perhaps not. I wonder if anyone checked the oil before starting.
