Hi,

I'm about to order a new Cruisers Yachts 395 (haven't seen one in real life as yet), and the dealer tells me it has a Centrafuge Head.

Now I know that this is NOT a Vacuflush, but does anyone know anything about these...i.e. is it just a fancy name for an electric head ?, is it Raw Water or Fresh Water flush ?

Thanks,

Wayne

Probably. Most electric heads I've ever seen have a centrifugal pump.

Maybe the whole head spins... that would be interesting!!!

"Centrifugal" is the type of pump used on the discharge side of the toilet. Most electric toilets these days use that type of pump.

I guess it's the new sales buzzword; so the buyer will think he's getting something "new and improved".

Bill, in days gone by, a fair number of electric toilets also used rubber impellers for their discharge pumps, most notably the Deep Draft Crown Head. While they are positive-displacement pumps, rubber impellers are noisy, draw a lot of power, and don't always perform as well as they should - plus you can't run them without water in them. Centrifugal pumps are MUCH quieter, don't draw as much power and generally, are a good deal more efficient.

I spoke to the good folk at Cruisers this morning and was very pleasantly surprised to find out that the "Centrifuge Head" is actually a Sealand Vacuflush (x2) ! ...The missus will indeed be pleased..now maybe she'll let me buy it !

A VacuFlush head uses a vacuum pump, rather than a centrifugal pump, to operate. but they work very well.

Visualize the medievel sling shot with a rope and place to put a rock. Substitute a small bucket where the rock goes.

I just bought an '06 Cruisers 460 and it has Tecma centrifuge heads. They are made in Italy and seen a lot more solid than the vacuflush heads on my Cruisers '04 400. They are also a lot quieter.

They do go through an interesting flush cycle which takes about 10 seconds to fully complete as it is 2 stage.. Tough to describe this one....

Techma heads work very well and are relatively inexpensive - just hope you don't ever have to get one repaired...!
