I bought a 2000 Wellcraft with the 7.4L MPI and it had fresh water contaminate the complete fuel system. I pulled the fuel injectors and had them cleaned/flowed and finally got the boat running well. The pressure at the rail was right at 40psi. After about 20 hours of use, the fuel pressure went to about 1psi and died. I replaced the pump. I bought the complete cooler assembly as well but only installed the pump. After this, the pressure at the rail was only 35psi but the engine runs well but a little off in performance???
The boat would previously run 30mph ** 3,000rpm. now it takes 3,700rpm to run 30 mph but the fuel burn is the same at 12GPH. This tells me I am probably running lean and the 35psi is not enough.
I have the seloc manual but it does not state the required fuel pressure???
Can I suspect that the fuel pressure regulator is bad??? There is a small screen filter in the reg that I did not replace but I figure if I have to I might as well put a new regulator on as it is quite a pain to access.
Am I on the right track here??? I am new to boating but I have lots of automotive experience.
What else besides the regultor would cause a low fuel pressure??? Thanks in advance. TBF
p.s. I did replace the fuel filter/H2O seperator and all fuel vents and lines appear clear.
