I have one 454 engine running hotter than the other, think I could have a thermal runaway situation under high RPM's. Last season, changed oil coolers, water pump and planned to do something with the heat exchanger soon.
A few weeks ago I purchased an infared temperature gun and did some diagnostics. To my surprise------ the probem (I think) is one of the risers. The bottom of one riser is much cooler than the top.
I have parts purchased last fall for one engine, intend to install them this week. Some suggest installing them dry but I am a firm believer in applying some type of gasket compound if only to make the gasket surfaces mate smother. Later I will get parts for the other engine and repeat the process.
What is recommended for gasket compound? is there something that does not have a silicon additive?
