went to the fuel dock this morning (diesel up to 2.75 from 2.50 a month ago...) I tie up, stbd to as usual. I go downbelow to switch the vents over to the clear hose i use to re route it to the fillers to avoid spilting out, open the fillers (port side, amidship) and by the time i walk back to the stern to get the nozzle from the attendant I see that he has it in the pumpout fitting at the stern, port side, by the dock! thought i was going to have a heart attack!
luckily, he dind't start pumping... fitting is clearly marked WASTE... his excuse is that he saw the opened fitting and assumed I had opened it for fueling... turns out it's an old pump out fitting, now disconnected but that I keep open to vent out the aft bilge. My boat used to have 3 holding tanks and pump out but converted to a single large bow tank a few years ago. so that hose is just opened to the bilge.
that's why i like to do everything myself... docking, tying up my lines and pumping my own fuel!
