Hello good people of BoaterEd!
I haven't been here in a while - I hope all is well.
I have a question about grease. I just finished a lower shift cable repair (Alpha) and getting ready to trailer the Sea Colon (long story on the name) 160 miles back to the coast.
So, I need grease for the shift cable, U-joints, coupler splines, drive bearings, trailer bearings, and I might as well lube up the truck before I hit the road.
I already have three grease guns; One for the street vehicles (Valvoline synth blend), one for the boat trailer bearings (Lubrimatic), and one for the drive bearings (Quicksilver). I also just bought a tube of Sierra spline grease to reinstall the drive.
This is getting silly. Is there one or two different types of grease I can use for everything? I'm sure I can probably use the marine trailer bearing grease on my truck's suspension. What about spline grease for the Alpha U-joints? Are they all really that different??
What do you folks do?
Thanks for all feedback and opinions - and sorry for the long rantlike post.
