Fog doesn't scare me idiots running on plane near by do.. Too many damn fools with radar, chart plotters big engines and no brains.

The idiot referenced in the article above was entering a busy marina area. If it weren't for fog keeping smarter boaters at the dock he would have hit someone.
 
After seeing more pictures and now knowing how far the building is from the water, I can now believe the boat was traveling at over 30 knots or more. Before I really couldn't believe anybody would be that stupid.

Fast ferries? Or me? (In all fairness, any time I was steaming hard in fog, I had very good cause to!)

I never cared for riding as a passenger on those fast ferries in fog. I don't mind getting up and going in fog, IF there is good cause to do so, and IF I'm the one doing it. Never got comfortable with riding as pax in those conditions at those speeds with someone else in control.
 
I was really thinking about recreational boats. I ve tracked echos running 20kts or more approaching passing so close that I only saw them for a couple of seconds on 100' VIs.

But yes, the fast ferries are even more scary. While I could undestand thm running fast in open water, they should go slow while in chanels. I once came in Hyannis in conditions where you couldn't see anything whileA fast ferry was charging at full speed in th opposite direction and as you know, unlike nantucket, hyanis is not a straight shot.
