teak cleaning method/product? The only thing I'm sure about is that I'm not going to varnish. Thanks.

Rip it out and replace it with plas-teak

There's some truth in there. I love Bristol bightwork on a boat. But after 2 boats with teak, there's a reason I didn't want any on my new boat.

I found the best thing was to clean teak first with a teak cleaner, then use teak oil. Be careful with the cleaners. Many of the 2 part types are highly effective, but will also stain fiberglass.

I used to use teak oil from the hardware store. A light sanding brings back the color of the wood, then use 2 coats and it should last a season. Nice thing about oil is that you usually don't have to remove it all or sand; just add another coat. Some folks swear by stuff like Cetol but I never liked the orangey look. Plus I found it would crackle and flake over time.

Eventually I just let my teak rails weather to it's natural silver color. I wanted to go boating, not mess with teak.

IME 0 back in the day teak looks great when first prepped but does not last long. I used to used Semco instead of oil and it seamed to last longer.

I sponge sand to remove old sealer & clean the teak, and use a sponge brush to apply 4 to 6 quick coats of Semco/Cetol mixed with a little Amazon teak oil . On the outside stuff , I repeat once or twice during the end of April to Nov 1 season.

I was told auto trans fluid after cleaning but that sure sounds very 'UN green'...

I have a friend who used that on his teak decks. Made them look nice w/o making them slippery.
