I'm looking at a 35 Maxum for sale with autopilot?

When would you use auto pilot? How do you use it?

I dont think I would go below deck and let the boat drive on by itself, what is the advantages and how do you use it?

Virtually every ship at sea is under the control of an autopilot. In most cases, they will steer a course more true than any helmsman can. I wouldn't use one in congested waters but offshore they are invaluable. There is a law on the books requiring a proper lookout. We don't need any more regulating the use of autopilots.

Another big advantage of a GPS interface is the automatic set and drift calculation.
