No Bahamas entries on this forum in last 30 days. What gives? Come on you wayfarers; news, pics, stories please.

Well Mixman didn't make it to the Bahamas because of weather/winds. Beach Bum is back in the US and I haven't been yet; going next month.

So, all in all, it's been a slow Bahamas season thus far.

Yeah, ever since we got back to NY I've been thinking about going back! But not until the Fall will we have much to say. I am wondering if we will hang around longer next year. We made it all the way to the end of May this year, and that was a 6 month stay.
Stories? Have a look at my blog. It's not monetized or whatever. I started it to let family and friends know what was going on. If you scroll back in time perhaps you might find something you enjoy. Only three winters of B.S. in the Abacos with supporting photos and gps tracks. Any feedback is welcome.

Things have changed a lot since the days of the annual BoaterEd trips to Bimini.

Don't have a boat any more, but still savor the fun in the sun that we enjoyed from 2001-2006.

Would be a great tradition to revive IMHO.

Well as soon as we can sell the place up North and move South perhaps we can participate in the weekend trips over :D

We're setting up things for May 2012 once again. I'd still like to try and make the Exumas, but after skipping a year, the Abacos will suffice. However, if I keep getting north winds when I'm in Florida again, I'll stick to the Keys!

Bob, I want to see some Bosun pics with a Sands!

We just returned from 2 1/2 weeks in the Abacos. Left in mid June and returned last night. Very smooth going across but a little bumpy yesterday evening coming home. Hit all of the standard islands, GTC, Elbow, Guana, Treasure and went to Man O War for the first time. Did a little Conch diving and found a beautiful new reef south of Sea Spray at the Sandy Cay game reserve. Lots of fantastic coral and saw a shark, many barracuda, an eel and a big ray all on one dive.

It was overcast some so it was 82 to 85 highs every day with a nice 15 knot wind to keep things cool. We find June to be the best weather as it is not too hot but the gulf stream is crossable almost every day. The crossing weather is consistently better once mid June hits as the summer high pressure sets in over the FL Bahamas area and the winds shift to the south and east.

We slowed coming into the gulf stream as we passed West End and trolled for a bit and caught a couple of nice black fin tuna. Kind of surprising as we were about to pull in the lines and decided to leave them out a few more minutes but extra long and then trolled at least 8 or 10 knots when we hit a school of tuna. Instantly both lines were going. Gonna fire the grill up in a few minutes to grill a few fresh fillets.

With some luck, we plan on going back to Bimini, Atlantis and the Exumas in a few weeks.

Right now I am planning to go the last week of July and the first week of August. Should be finished with all my family comittments by then.

I can't wait.

So now that we curtailed our stay in the Bahamas to get back earlier, I have been dismissed based on my hearing impairment. Thanks gang. I coulda been at the stranded naked party this year.
Maybe next year!

Hey Dan, we made it again this year to the Stranded Naked beach party. One of the highlights of going in the June/July time frame. All of the food and booze you can eat and drink for free! Endless Jimmy Buffet and hundreds of boats on a deserted island in crystal clear water. There are a few goofballs but it is actually a lot of fun. Many more power boats than sail boats considering it is sponsored by the regatta. The kids enjoy it too with all of the contests etc. The last two years ended with some pretty good thunderstorms.

I'm already wondering about this coming Fall and where we will stay.
