where is Shenzhen Bay?

It's a long branch off the Chesapeake. It stretches from the Sassafrass all the way to China, and winds its way back to Still Pond.

Glenn.. LOL! Way too funny!

rhb..
The truth of the matter is that Shenzhen Bay is in South China, next to the city of Shenzhen. If you are really interested, look for Hong Kong on your map of China... Shenzhen is a 1 hour ferry ride across from Hong Kong.

OK, so your next question is, why is Shenzhen Bay in the forum name. Well, because I am a Chesapeake Bay boater and the monitor for this forum. I am currently working and living in Shenzhen and the GexTBC who runs this I-net harbor and set-up the forum has a weird sense of humor.

Interesting....Shenzhen was a small village when I arrived in Hong Kong in 1974 to fly for Cathay Pacific Airways.
It then became a duty-free factory city, just across the Hong Kong fenced border, for the Communist Chinese to trade directly with the West.
In 30 years it has grown to, I'm guessing, 10+ million people.
Most of the products bought from Wallmart to Macy's are manufactured there. In fact, very little is now manufactured in Hong Kong as the labor costs are so much higher than Shenzhen's. Hong Kong now provides most of the banking, legal and administrative services.
I don't think there can be much pleasure boating in Shenzhen Bay as the water and air quality is very polluted. Most boaters use the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club and the marinas at the eastern end of the Kowloon peninsula and the southeast corner of Lantau.

David,
The population of Shenzhen is approaching 15M. You will see Mercedes, BMW 7 Series, Cadillacs and Lexus' everywhere. Traffic is a mess now and the air pollution rivals that of LA on its worst day. There is no pleasure boating in Shenzhen but there is in Zhuhai. In fact, I visited a boat builder in Zhuhai a couple of weeks ago and saw one of our RO's trawler's under construction. International banking just moved into Shenzhen this year. I live in Bao'an and work at our facilities in both Shiyan and in Panyu. When I need a taste of Western civilization I head to Shekou and hang-out at Waterworld or the Ecstasy Sports Bar. If I really need full blown civilazation I hop on the ferry to Kowloon for Italian at Fat Angelo's and a cold Miller Genuine Draft and a burger at the Hard Rock.

I was wondering what a coincidence it would have to be, for a body of water in Maryland to have also been named Shenzhen Bay....

Nice to hear you're in Southern China. My job takes me to Beijing six months out of the year. Never been down south but hope to have a chance to go there some time.

Robert

Robert,
I've never been to Beijing but hope to make a visit there in the fall before the weather goes to crap. If you ever get a chance to visit the south of China try to avoid May - September. The climate in Shenzhen is true South Florida hot and humid with a lot of smog tossed in. All that said, I do enjoy it here. Lots to do, living is inexpensive and the people are OK (even taking into account the natural rudeness of the mainlanders). Hong Kong is a wonderful place to visit. The difference in cultures that you see from a 1 hour ferry ride is never less than amazing. The May Day Holiday is coming up so I'm planning a trip to Hainan Island for some clean air, beach time and some diving.

China; 1.4 Billion People..... 3 Good Drivers.

Mike. Welcome home for the Easter Bunny. Have a great stay with the family, and enjoy the snow!! We have about 3/4 of an inch here this am, and figured maybe you got some to remember what winter was about.
Onc again thatnk you for the pictures.

Dusty, thanks but no snow here! Unbelievable, eh? Happy Easter to you and Barbara as well.

Yeah, home until next Sunday then its back on the United Torture Tube. I'm going to go through San Francisco this time instead of Chicago just for a little change. The end of this month is the May Day holiday in China. I'm planning to spend it on a 5 day vacation on Hainan Island, "The Hawaii of China" as the propaganda goes. It's just a 1 hour flight from Shenzhen so a little beach time and clean air is within reach. Might even catch up on some SCUBA time since I have my gear over there. Let me know as soon as you make your plans to visit.

MikeeH - Sorry to hear that one of the good drivers died. Luck. dale
