While waiting for my boat to arrive this spring I was checking on the cost of registration. I live in Indiana and boat solely on Lake Michigan. The local BMV told me the cost for registering in Ind. would be 365.00 per year. While talking with my local USPS rep. he told me that I could register in Michigan, providing that my boat did not remain in Ind. waters longer that 90 days. I called Mi. BMV and found out that registration was 164 for 3 YEARS. Needless to say my boat is slipped in Ind. with a Mi registration. I spend the night in Mi. at least once a month. So I technically am not in Ind. waters more than 30 days. I've never been boarded but I have had USPS safety inspection. Am I legal or not.
