I've noticed that there is little posting on the forum. Granted, we're not doing any boating at this time of the year, but doesn't anyone have anything to share about boating on the island? For a start, I have a question: What's the last you've heard or experienced with Moriches Bay? We have a 33' twin-inboard cruiser at Eastport Marina and did not do any boating this past season because of health reasons. I'm concerned/worried/curious about the condition of the bay and the east/west channel. Any info? Hy
 
That's cruel!!!!! I had to use the snowblower this afternoon, again, to clear the snow from the front of our driveway, snow which was depositted there by the town plow in clearing the street. Then I stared at the remnants of the foot of snow we received Tuesday night and almost wished to be in Florida - almost. The semester began on Tuesday at Suffolk County Community College, where I'm an Adjunct Professor. It feels great to be back in the classroom with a new group of students. They make life interesting and rewarding. Tonight I'm home alone with our little dog; the Admiral's at a board meeting for the library at which she's an administrator. The boat's hibernating out in Eastport and I'm stalling on working on the paperwork to do our taxes. That's why I'm typing this post. Oh, well, have to get to work. Enjoy Florida, you snowbirds, and stay warm, the rest of you. Hy
 
My mother-in-law even bailed-out from the cold and snow of Long Island......She got here Monday.....for a month....living in our motorhome in the driveway. She calls it her apartment. But she will be evicted in April if she didn't leave yet. That's when we hit the road for 6 months. :)

It will be a full month of ......good old fashion Italian cooking :)
 
Now you're throwing in good Italian cooking. That's too much temptation! Right now it's 15 degrees outside with a wind chill of zero. I had some Turkish food for dinner because I didn't feel like cooking for just myself. Tomorrow is supposed to be bitter cold followed by a week of cold, colder, and bitter cold, with occasional snow. My in-laws were snowbirds for about 20 years; they had a place in Sunrise, just north of Lauderdale. We used to go down there, during the February school break, when the kids were young. I sold their place for them about five years ago. Their ages and health don't allow them to travel any more. I have a brother who lives all-year in Boynton Beach and another who lives in DelRay. One of my sisters is a snowbird, with a place in DelRay. One of our daughters-in-law's parents have a place in Los Olas, which they visit regularly. I guess my wife and I could sneak down to Florida for a few days, but I've got to be careful with the budget. We may owe some taxes this year and the boat is definitely going into the water in April. Those costs have to come first. Better get a heavier blanket for tonight! I'm getting depressed. Hy

Barb....so true !!

Funny thing down here....they get all excited for days....that a COLD front is coming. We laugh when the temps get in the mid 40's. THIS is the cold front ??? I guess they need to spend a few winters up in N.Y. :)
 
Recently colder in Jacksonville FL than Anchorage AK. I'm in the midst of a brief hibernation. Have a bunch of boat parts to install and a bunch of RV parts to swap. But I'm hibernating...
 
A few weeks until I can get back down.

This work stuff is inconvenient.

Just came off a 5 week extended work stint in Michigan.
Getting excited for boating but just found out I have go to Switzerland for work beggining of May.
Thinking of adding on a Italy side trip to that, so my boating season may be delayed, but that's life!
 
Guy I used to work with just got transferred to Switzerland for 2 years.....no boating for him!
 
Going to the keys next week, better be nice and warm :)Got to find a place out east for the boat this year, hate my sand trap :( Cruise in April, Caribbean, then I guess the boating season

I saw the surgeon today for a follow-up on by spinal surgery. Everything looks good, so, barring any weird incidents from now till the spring - such as falling on the ice and breaking my neck - I'm cleared for boating for the 2014 season! I'm still having some problems with swallowing, and will be going for a swallowing survey in which I get to swallow different radioactive food stuff while they video everything under xrays. Sounds like fun. My problems may have been caused by the fact that this was my third surgery on my neck,two of which were within five months of each other,and the fact that I was intubated and sedated for 30 hours. Getting older sure ain't for sissies. So, on a brighter side, does anyone have any new information on Moriches Bay and the east/west channel? Hy

Get the swallowing gig, 8 months now and much better, almost non existent.In do have other things lingering, but feel it is a bit mental and with strength and determination all should work out.
