Ok. All the boatyards in my area are booked for weeks.

I called Tech Express..they seem reputable. The guy who runs the company also services many boats in Berkely Marina. They cost 195 for the first 2 hour minimum.

I found another guy, mechanic on craigslist. He charges $65.00 for a diagnostic. He's not a certified mechanic. Hmm. Actually. I think I know the answer to my own question.

Cant go cheap because I'll get what I paid for. Nevermind.

LOL....I knew your learning as you go along!!!! Good luck. Might as well get in line and be patient.

I just had a significant steering problem on my Trophy while on a can in Capitola harbor. Ed and Mike out there suggested a mechanic that would do on the water repairs. He came out and although I need new cables, he got me going to the point our month longs worth of fishing was accomplished. He charged 90.00 an hour so that seems to be what you encountered. Good Labor ain't cheap and cheap labor ain't good.

Don't even think twice about the craigslist shadetree "mechanics" (and I use that term VERY loosely!).

Unless you want to get screwed and end up with a boat in worse condition than when you started.

If they were any good, they'd be working at a real shop instead of begging for some sucker to hire them with a free online posting...

As hard as the marine industry has been hit, I am aware of a few reputable shops that are always looking to hire a qualified tech.

So true. Im glad I thought better of it. I dont need those kinds of problems. The other mechanic has a website, higher rates and gave me references..Berkeley Marina harbormaster...He will cost more but I feel more secure.
