Right now I'm testing the antenna on the Ericsson W35 modem. It's 2 to 3db better then the DAC 563W.
Make sure you either get a pre-assembled FME cable or make sure you have the crimpers and an FME female connector if you want to reuse your existing antenna cable. I cheated by having a spare LMR240 (RG-8X) cable already run. I changed the Wilson antenna's pigtail connector to an N male and the LMR240 cable got an N female at the antenna. It was already terminated in the electronics locker with a type N male. I have all the various adapter cables and FME adapters for the cellular modems I use and then some.

Using the Rogue w/ the antenna mounted above the radar arch & a Netgear router on board, I too can find several dozen wifi spots - - in my home port. Not the same while traveling. The gain of the Rogue is impressive - with the laptop internal antenna I get perhaps 3 sites while the Rogue will pick up dozens.

On the mainland in South Dartmouth, MA, I had about 15 sites on the Rogue, only 5 w/ 'Green' (strong) signals, the others were weaker. All except 1 of the 5 were WEP or WEP2 protected, and the unprotected one had an internal password required to get past the "Welcome to XYZ's WiFi internet site" home page. Similar situation on Cape Cod in Falmouth, MA - - each of the 5 - 6 Marina's in the harbor had wifi hotspots, but ALL were protected except the Town dock . . . which the Town employees shut down when they lock up for the day at 8 pm!

On this trip, NONE were Cablevision/xfinity/comcast. Also, I find that on the more distant networks / weaker signals, I can usually connect to the network, but cannot get an IP address - so no internet access.

BTW, by adding the mac address to the Cablevision account, the Rogue now will log into a cablevision wifi site w/o prompting - at my home dock anyway.

I have noticed when using a ROGUE compared to my Wave high power unit it can be difficult to connect to any sites with less then 3 red bars, however if you can't grab an IP it is usually that there is interference on the channel of the access point. Also it's too bad that the marina's in your travels don't have open networks. In the end those without good policy open networks will not attract new customers and may have trouble keeping their own customer's happy. In situations where you can connect but can't get IP addresses try disconnecting the internal Netgear router and plugging the ROGUE's LAN cable directly into a laptop. I think you will be surprised that you will be able to connect and get an IP address. This has to do with the Netgear internal router causing interference to your own network.

Bill, Tessco has 11 Wilson 362612 antennas in stock (they had 12, but I've got one on order for 9am p/u tomorrow). I want to use my existing cabling, which is to an 800 series Digital Antenna so I'm also getting a Wilson 301130 FME Male to N-Male adapter.
 
Kurt I thought about this and I am going to leave one Digital 563W that is mounted forward on the hardtop. The 2 Digital 563W's on my arch will be getting replaced.
All of the 563W's are currently in use. The only antenna not in use is the Beer Can.

I decided to go with a new cable. Amazon had a Wilson FME 15' cable for $15.
 
Billy - you mention going hard-wire to the Rogue rather than wireless thru the Netgear - - I had originally (when I installed the system) thought about reducing the Netgear's gain (e.g., power out/in), thus minimizing interference w/ the Rogue, and limiting those who may wish to 'hack into' my private net . .. I even contacted Netgear's tech support for instructions on how-to ... but never did it- - - do you think it might help?

Bill has me running my router output as low as it'll go (5% I believe). Some routers can do that, some can't. If yours can, by all means take it down as low as you can to minimize interference with your outside antenna.
 
I purchased a new LMR240 cable with the FME's as well. But I didn't need it for this installation. I just ordered 2 additional Wilson antennas from Tessco. I am going to replace 2 of the 3 Digital 563W's. I have a few projects going on with the boat. Hopefully the parts and equipment will be delivered to my marina before the 4th.

I actually ordered Wilson 15-Foot RG 58U Los Loss Foam Coax. I hope the RG58 will work okay. I figured 15 feet is pretty short for loss purposes?
 
Gene it will definately help to reduce your Netgear router's power level and in some cases the channel. I find that most non commercial home routers are on channel 6. Any outside commercial Hotspot/ AP doesn't stand much of a chance of going any distance if it's on channel 6. So that is the channel I use internally in my boat when using a 2.4GHz (802.11B&G) router/AP. Most of the time I run only 802.11A on 5.8GHz for my boat's inside router/AP. It has no negative effect on trying to pick up weaker 2.4GHz 802.11B,G or N Access Points.

At 700MHz LTE the losses won't hurt you at the AWS/PCS frequencies the losses get higher. Thats why I have all LMR240 or RG-8X (identical) also the shielding is better on the RG-8X cabling then RG-58. Still you should be fine. The dual FME's make running the cables nice I like the idea.

Sooo, Netgear says to lower the power, reset the Preamble mode from Automatic to Short Preamble. done. As for channel, it's currently set for Auto . . . are you suggesting I reset it to ch 6? the choices are 01 - 11.

All the suggestions Netgear gave you are spot on. I would set your internal Netgear router up on channel 6. Auto only does a quick channel scan when you 1st power up and if needed a single possible channel move to the router it is not a dynamic function, if it was that would be the prefered setting but your computer or internal WiFi devices would disconnect everytime it changed channels in auto mode. As I mentioned most of the "home" routers are by default set to channel 6 most people don't mess with channels. So you end up with a ton of pollution of channel 6 making it worthless for most outdoor Hotspots. Your internal router set to channel 6 will not have any problems inside your boat negotiating a connection on your internal WLAN.

I finally got my Wilson 301130 antenna installed. 15' of FME to FME was just the right length, wew!

In my slip I'm only getting about -80dBm on the UML290 card by itself. I get -71dBm with the Wilson antenna into the card. And I get -52dBm with the CM700V SureCall amp in the mix. Not bad at all.
 
Kurt, I replaced 2 of my original Digital 563W's for a grand total of 3 Wilson quad band Omni's. I'm using the LMR240 on one and just installed new Female connectors on the older 563W's cables. I still have the double Beercan Omni on a small spreader below the steaming and anchor LED fixtures. It really works well but not as good as the Wilson quad bands. I have one 563W still on the hardtop and it will stay because on the offsetting side I have a Digital AIS 4' antenna that looks identical and balances the look. That Digital 563W terminates into a bulkhead double N female connector where I can plug in a modem or cellphone if needed. I might remove THE 563W and install a Digital 4' VHF antenna so I can use it on my ham radio for 2 meter FM in the near future.
I rerouted my CAT5 cables, removed the AP card from my Wave EC/HP and shut off all the AP's in my Cradlepoint routers and the Ericsson W35. They all run their data through CAT5E shielded into a new switch/router from Wave I am BETA testing. It feeds a single smoke detector style dual band Enginius WiFi AP. I have the AP currently only programmed to broadcast on 5GHz or 802.11A/N. I also removed the Panasonic 4 line 5GHz phone system and replaced it with a modern V-TEC DEC6.0 cordless system that has 2 Bluetooth cellular connections in addition to the RJ-11 that gets dial tone from my Ericsson W35 on AT&T. I have been real busy reworking numerous systems on the boat. I'm almost done rerouting, shortening and terminating some of the heavy #4/0 cabling and switching between all the various battery banks. I installed a new BlueSky solar controller last week as well. The next project is adding a fresh air ventilation system in the highest point in the salon near the rear doors to get rid of trapped hot air near the rear doors and the main AC panel. It should really help my AC cool better in the salon area. I'm installing 3 to 4 3" computer whisper fans to draw the air out of that area and exhaust it up into the bridge area.
Never a dull moment. Today I actually spent an entire day on land in my office. My wife and I hope to be back on the boat tomorrow afternoon after I visit a local customer in the morning.

I do stay in Holiday Inn's but it's a hobby Rob. The last capacitor I replaced on the boat was the front AC units split start capacitor.
