I have a 1988 25 Searay Sundancer and looking at a Lewmar V700 windlass for my boat. Anyone have one and if so how does it preform. Any suggestions? Thanks.

(just checked my clearance and have only 12 inches, need to go with a horizon unit, anyone recomend a decent unit in the 700.00 - 800.00 range?)

As with any vertical, be sure there is room in the rope locker to stow your rode without snagging on the windlass parts. All the "machinery" for a vertical is below
deck as opposed to a horizontal windlass where everything is above deck.
Good luck,
Ron

I had a 1984 Sea Ray 270 with a 10' beam. I put a horizontal windlass in & could not put more than 200' of rode in the locker. There just was not enough drop. I think if you put a vertical into your 25'er, you will have it on Ebay in short order. I think even a horizontal model with more than 150' of rode will cause a lot of frustration with hockles.

If you only have 12" clearance, then save your money & just get an anchor ball. From when I had my SR, I observed that as a general rule, the diameter of the coils is equal to the distance of the drop. So, how many 12" coils do you think you can fit before they jam up when you try to drop the anchor?
