Windows 8 and GPS

Trying to get my Navigation program working, and its my understanding that Windows 8 will not accept a GPS hook-up?.. Is there a driver or something I can download so windows 8 will recognize the GPS?..

Can't you use a GPS antenna which plugs in a port like you can with an Ipad?
I remember someone using an Ipad with a GPS antenna they got from Tiger Direct, along with their Navionics app.

I'm using my old Raymarine 320 chartplotter for a GPS. It works with Windows XP and I'm trying to get it to work with Windows 8
