Winter Upgrades Completed

For the past few weeks I have been doing some major upgrades to my 2005 Chaparral Signature 240. The plan was to eliminate the JBL stereo system, remove the old Humminbird 595c chartplotter and add a full NMEA 2000 networked system.

One of my favorite updates was adding Boat Command. В This system monitors and sends alerts to my iPhone for anything you set up. Here are the results.

Old chart plotter removed and added a new Simrad GO7XSE. This is an awesome product, all touchscreen, build in WIFI that can mirror and be controlled by a tablet and is part of my NMEA 2000 backbone. Also added to this was an additional fuel filter for the Simrad fuel flow sensor and a Simrad GPS antenna. The chartplotter DOES have built in GPS but I wanted to eliminate all Humminbird equipment. Also added the Navionics charts since the basic charts that came with the unit are not that desirable.

Second was to add a new Simrad VHF radio and antenna. This is also connected to the network.

Then came the stereo. I was looking for basic radio/bluetooth capability and NMEA 2000 network so I went with Fusion 70N and the remotes to replace the ones at helm and stern (old JBL product).

Finally, the horn Chaparral installs is a joke. So added a new trumpet horn.

Now time for it to warm up so I can take her for a run!!

Nice job Joey! I am considering redoing my sound system. Did you choose the Fusion because of NEMA 2000 compatibility or some other reason. Right now, I'm down to either Fusion or JL. What do you think?

Greg, I was not looking for fancy just something that worked and was NMEA 2000 compatible. When you are ready go talk to Chris at AVC Marine in Buford. They sell a lot of Fusion product. What I like about Fusion this was not aftermarket automotive that was updated for marine use. It was built specifically for boating.

We have a similar setup in the dinghy, same or similar Simrad plotter with fusion MS RA 205. The vhf isn't networked, not sure why you d want that except for MMSI gps location.

Nice system also again I don't see the point of controlling the stereo thru the Simrad I guess if you put the stereo in a cabin it can be convenient but I'd prefer a remote The screen isn't that big so it s just clutter.

In our case the Honda 75 is also hooked up to the simrad which can display all engine data incl fuel burn and fuel tank level. Nice touch but again i d rather have traditional gauges... the fact that the round Honda gauge was optional shows how much manufacturer are pushing for interfaces electronics...

In any case that simrad is pretty neat.
