The 6.2L Horizon is a closed cooling system, to winterize, the manual only references the three blue drain plugs, 1 on the fuel pump cooler and 2 on the raw water pump but I found no mention of draing the heat exchanger. A question to any of you that might be familiar with winterizing this engine, what is the correct procedure to complete the job? Thank you

there should be a drain plug/anode plug on the heat exchanger, and you may have to pull a hose off the oil cooler. We run antifreeze thru while the engine is running, so I don't know where the drains are anymore :-(

Don't forget the two plugs on the exhaust manifolds, draining these will also drain the exchanger. At least it did on my 7.4 horizon. Tom

Thanks Tom, that's part of my concerns, the exhaust manifolds are a part of the closed cooling system and the way I see it they shouldn't require draining. The drain plug in the heat exchanger is almost on the top of the exchanger and just didn't look like it would drain it from there. Thanks for your comments.

If you have the Horizons, don't you have that air pump gizmo (technical term) that opens up a series of drain ports? Mine does. The raw water just drains into the bilge.

David, I pumped the air up but not before opening the three blue drain plugs, didn't notice any water coming out anywhere so I did't know for sure what was supposed to happen. I wonder if I would have seen water somewhere if I hadn't already opened the drain plugs, don't know, that's what I'm trying to get a handle on. Thanks

I have V-Drives so looking at the engine bow to stern, I look at the pumping mechanism as being on the left of each engine.

Did the green nipples pop out like a butterball turkey. When those pop, the raw water valves are supposed to open and the raw water side drains into the bilge.

Not a word Sibley.....not a word.

Yes, they popped out (up), do you just leave them that way?

Yes. Just leave them. You pull the ring aft (on my system) of the pop up mechanisms to release the pressure and the system is supposed to self seal. I'll find out if there is anything else that has to be done from my mechanic when I see him this week.
