Has anyone had the opportunity to install wood flooring on a 1988 38' Santego??? I'm particularly interested on how you installed it over the numerous access hole for the bilge area....thanks for the info.

You may want to move your question to ATC. I know a few on here have done it but not on your model boat. I would think the basics would be the same.

I put down pergo this past summer. I have three hatches so I could not let the floor float. I glued it down. It took a lot longer than I expected and used about 6 boxes. Also you should use the narrower boards. It is easier to work with. There have been pics of boats that did this on ATC.It looked great after but a lot of work.

Roughly the same problem on my houseboat. I glued the flooring down, with cutouts for the hatches; and glued more flooring on the hatch covers.

An alternative method would be to glue the flooring to plywood panels; when you want access just lift the appropriate panel.

Amtico flooring is what you should try and seek out for boat applications.

Ridiculously expensive, not worth the cost, IMHO.

I agree...go with natural wood from Lowes or Home Depot...not that expensive.

Lumber Liquidators has floating floors that are 100% wood including the substrate. Something to consiter if there are kids who don't understand the concept of drying off prior to going below.

Amtico is resistant to moisture, others aren't as resistant to humidity as Amtico is.

You get what you pay for.

I did it in 1999. Most any neighborhood flooring store product will do. If you're worried about moisture seal the edges and leave about 3/8ths space around the sides. Finish w/ quarter rounds. The real work was pulling the staples in the old carpet mat. You can finish your hatches with the help of a local metal bender. Looks great. Good Luck.

I was at Home Depot today and found what I will put in my boat should I decide to purchase it. It is Vinyl strips of clooring the simulate the texture and look of wood. It was around $1.69/sf. They have a few options. Lowes has a similar, more expensive product from Pergo that has alot of options as well.

My brother installed it in his family room a few years ago and it is incredible. It has stood up extremely well to a todler and animas.

I might look into it a little further and see of they sell a thin strip that could be cut and laid to look like teak and holly.
