Friday night at freeport, around dusk, I must have ingested 150 gnats, both landing on my food while eating, and breathing them in. So bad braccos emptied out for a while. I stayed, wasnt giving up my lobster.
Then again a few times Sunday a.m. and last night. Swarming like I have never seen before and I have been doing this 17 years.
Must be that warm winter.

Green flies should be just as bad.......with the warm winter .

I was looking for more of a "don't worry, the first warm weekend is always the worst, it will get better".

I thought I was the only one! The gnats are even getting in our house. I've never seen it this bad this early. Hard to even work in the yard.......they're just all over the place. I've tried bug sprays on me but they don't seem to keep them away. Anyone have any suggestions that work for them?

The no see ums are out in full force. On both Sat and Sun after cruising I didn't even bother to cover and spray. It would have been ugly. Instead I waited till after 9:00 when the sun sets so the buggers seem to dissipate.
Filling up in Reynolds Channel near Jones Inlet same deal with the gnats. This was at 1:00 in the afternoon. It's rare to have bugs issues like this so close to the inlet.
I considered us lucky though. No bugs at all in Zach's on both days. Not a mean greenie in sight.
Overall a great weekend with a stolen bonus day on Monday.....not bad!

The "no see ems" should go bye bye in a couple of weeks, they are the worst this year that I have seen them. On Friday at the LIYC, I felt like I was at Watch Hill. Maybe not that bad, but bad enough. Went to Atlantique on Sat-Mon and they were much less, in fact where I was docked on the east dock down north near the end, the slight breeze kept them away.

Harris,

You must have had a better spot at Zach's Bay than I did. Saturday I got so many of the gnats that we went into the cabin and I was considering re-anchoring some place else. I did a short dinghy ride around to see if they were as bad farther away from the beach. They must have been following me, 'cause I couldn't seem to get away from them.

What's you boat name? I'm Rola Roma. Say hello if you see me there. I always have a cold one ready for a fellow SeaRay owner.

My arms look like am doing drugs with all the bites...

what is the story with the no see' um's??????? At my house they are eating us alive. I can't remember ever having this happen. I'm getting nervous now!

usually a cold winter kills off alot of the eggs...........but not this winter.

Can't wait for the greenies to come around.......
