As some of you may know, I contracted with Atlantic Towers to build me a hard top in December of last year, took them a little while to send me the final renderings for my stamp of approval, then I kind of dropped the ball for a bit on signing off .

Signed off around the last week in January, was originally told 6 to 8 weeks from the time I sign off to the time they have it installed. Ok there were delays, sh$t happens so I can't get to excited about that (I am getting mellow in my old age)

Then I get this email today:

Hi Walter,
> Just a update. Your top is complete and while I could get it
> delivered, we are down to only one independent installer and he will
> not be able to get to Long Island until the weekend of 5/16/08. Your
> installation is relatively straight forward and if you want it
> delivered for your yard to install let me know. Delivery is $225. All
> drivers and installers are independent and are moonlighters, so they work weekends only.

So my dilemma is this:
Do I wait, for them to do it, or hire another guy to do it? I wanted them to do it so there was no BS, about the install that may void any kind of warranty. Problem with waiting is I need a new enclosure and cannot have AMC make one till the top is installed (they need to take measurements), AMC promised me that they would have the enclosure done in a week(once the top is installed) since I gave them a 50% deposit in January.

I emailed Shelly to send me over instructions on how to install the top so I could show the guys at MRD (the shop guys at the Anchorage) to see if this is something they could do.

The cost Atlantic wanted to charge me for the install is $600.00

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Walter

What really pisses me off is the fact that they did not do what they promised (installation time) and are not coming back to me with their hat in their hand offering me something to make up for this.

I must be the only smuck still around that cares about my customers.

Walter.......Have you spoke to the MRD guys ???? .............can they handle the install ???

If someone other than Atlantic's guys do the install....is the warranty still in effect ??? I would get that in writting.

That SUCKS..............

Don and I will install it.
You bring the beer, I will bring my multi-tool and my drill.
Drill a few holes and done!

Can staten island boats do it? At least they know the boat.

Dave.......better yet....I have a pneumatic nail gun we can use............NO PROBLEM !!!

Walter,

I had a tower made by them for the Trojan. I used their installer and it was exactly as they said. He came to the yard with the top and installed it. I also didn't want any BS from them so I used their guy. It went without a hitch and when my yard inspected the install, they gave it a thumbs up as having been done properly (correct backing plates etc.) I was very satisfied with the tower and the install. The installer was an independent who I paid in cash when it was done.

On the flip side, a neighbor in my marina in Glen Cove had one made by AT for his 70s vintage Hatt and installed it himself. He is a mechanic and is doing his own boat restoration. It looks great and he has no complaints about the top itself but he has commented that he should have had them do it. He spent alot of time measuring, adjusting and then re-measuring before drilling holes. It too looks great.

Considering you have a fairly new boat, I would just press them for the earliest date possible and hire them to do it. Chances are that the guy has done similar installs and may be less apt to make a mistake than someone doing it for the first time.

Just my .02 but then again I'm not even getting my boat until around May 20 so what kind of sympathy can I have..:)

Of course you already know not to let Dave and Don near the boat with beer and power tools.

Don,
Yeah, I will get some of thoe big trunk speakers and some wire, we can pimp Walter's ride! For security, bring some wire and we can juice this thing so any thief touched it, instant shock!

I alo have some extra 5200, maybe we don't need to drill holes, since some people here are worried about that. We can just glue it on!

5200..........is good.

I have lots of duct tape also.............. we'll pimp that bad boy !!!!
