Yanmar 6LYA-STP parts availability

My engine from my 2006 Mainship 34T is in repairs for minor leaks on the raw water cooler and oil cooler. My mechanic told me that the seals for both parts are not available in the US and must be shipped from Singapore. The reason, he said, was that my specific engine was not built to be imported into the US, so certain parts unique to this model have this issue. I expressed my surprise at this since Mainships are US built boats and he said that perhaps Mainship got a deal on some engines a company had ordered but could not use so resold them.

First question is, has anyone encountered this problem with this or any Yanmar engine?

Second, does the above explanation seem reasonable?

The engine serial number is 56583.
