Yet Another Cruise Ship Causing Illness

This follows the same thing on the sister ship "Majesty of the Seas" reported by CNN on the 17th. Bad month for Royal Caribbean. I wish they would stay out of the port of Key West.
 
We've been on seven cruises, a;; with the Celebrity line. We have always been impressed with the cleanliness of the ships, with the constant cleaning of railings, decks, and everything else visible in the public areas and our cabins. We'll stick with Celebrity; other lines seem to have one problem after another. Hy
 
Between sickness, fires and capsizing, why the hell would anyone go on a cruise ship? I've got a lot of better ways to spend my money.
 
Why would anyone shop in a mall? Why fly on a plane?

With large groups cruise ships are loads of fun.
Been on numerous cruises and we do one every year with a group of 20 friends.
Never had a issue.
The best thing about the cruise is the variety of food, entertainment and ports.
With typical vacation you are confined to one place unless you move around and then you have to deal with luggage and transportation.

We switched from carnival to royal because of issues carnival was facing.
Illness happens on all cruises and even resorts but is probably not reported at resorts because most people come and stay at different weeks.

I have zero concerns going on a cruise!
 
I was recently on a Celebrity cruise to Alaska and I have to say I would not hesitate to do it again. This was my first cruise and at least for this destination, was great! However, I can think of nothing worse than to spend your money on a vaction (anywhere) and then get sick and have to sit in your room! When these illnesses strike, they are fast moving and highly contagious. They aren't invented on the ships. Someone has to come on board with it. I don't sympathize with the cruise companies when they screw up their mechanical responsibilities, but this is not the cruise industries fault.
 
Let's wait and see what the CDC comes up with before we give the cruise line a pass or pass judgement on them too early. With the #s of passengers on board these ships, it's truly amazing it doesn't happen more often.
 
Heading off on a cruise with my wife soon for our 20th anniversary. No worries here. I choose not to live my life in fear of the possible.
 
Veteran cruiser here, RC is our choice, rough weather once in a great while but never a major issue
 
I wonder how many of those people had the flu shot? If you confine yourself with many people and don't have the shot you are asking for it. I don't usually get one, but if I was going on a cruise ship I would.
 
Cruise ships are great you have a lot of fun. But when things go wrong it is another story. I am glad I canceled this trip on the Explore Of The Seas it started off bad with a snow storm and cold weather. I notice the ship never went to Haiti knowing they had a problem and went to San Juan. If you get sick in another country you will have a hard time getting back in the USA. That's why you need a passport with you when you leave the country. If the ship could not leave port and flew people home you could not get on a plane with out passport. I am done leaving this country I will stay in the USA.

Totally agree. Have been on 4 cruises and we are thinking about an Alaska cruise this summer. Always impressed with the constant cleaning by the crews and multiple hand sanitation stations scattered all over the ship in very visible locations.
We just had a norovirus outbreak at one of our local hospitals, in fact, the newest, most modern hospital in our metropolitan area. I think about 30 nurses came down sick with it. Am I supposed to stop going to hospitals as well?
With millions taking cruises every year, I'm not concerned if a couple thousand get sick.
 
I don't get on a boat to go out, unless I know the captain or I am the captain. So I'd never would go on a cruise.
 
Always longing to travel in close company with thousands of people I do not know. Let us take a small town with us.

Catered by those I cannot speak to, or understand.
Been there, done that!

Flying is not much fun either; however it is necessary at times.

For 2013 out of 9 illness outbreaks(7 for norovirus)4 of them were on Celebrity.

I have been on 6 cruises...all of them on Princess. Loved every one of them and had no issues with anything what so ever. They are always cleaning and wiping, as stated above. Food is fantastic, crew is always helpful and friendly. Ships, while not the biggest on the ocean, are quite large with a logical layout and are nice to look at...not like the floating high rises that Carnival has in their fleet. Also...minimal kids :-)
 
Rather than bickering over this, lets just all agree to disagree.
There are those amongst us that think cruises are alot of fun and great vacation value.
There are those amongst us that think cruises are floating disasters.

No matter your viewpoint, it is unfortunate that people had their vacations ruined.
I know I would upset as well and I have yet to see any cruise line, airline, train, or hotel do the right thing after there is an issue. Let's face it, they look at it from a dollar viewpoint, customers look at it as I didn't get what I paid for viewpoint!

But like everything in life, nothing is perfect.
You want perfection, build a bubble and get in it and never leave it, but remember bubbles burst too!
