How do we open the door IF:
grandson locks the door latch while it is open AND slams the door while standing in the cabin AND the port is dogged down???
On another forum I was told there was a small hole on the outside of the latch. I'll check this weekend but I don't think there is one. The door hinges aren't accessible from the cabin.

it should be there...probably covered with a black rubber plug.

If its the same as the head door lock on my 370DA.......the only way in if your locked out...is to loosen the allen key and remove the outer handle....push the shaft thru the assembly (so the inner handle falls to the floor )..removed the 2 phillips screws that hold the lock assembly plate in place....and then move the door latch with a screwdriver.

The (3) hindges are accessable from outside the door.....but it appears the pins are pressed in and not removeable without cutting the heads off.

You think they would have thought of an easy way to rescue someone locked in the head ?

DD- I'll look but I would think I would remember seeing the phillips heads screws if they were there. Thanks.

Bliss....... This is what the head door lock looks like on my 1995 370DA.......I had a 1995 330DA a few years back........but can't remember if the locks where the same.

If the keyhole is not there - Try using a curved carpet knife long enough to hook behind the door lock latch. Begin to pull it forward against & behind the latch as you wiggle the door. The idea is to force the latch back into the lock so it will clear the door jam & allow you to open it.

*The trick is to remove the molding or do as little damage as possible sliding the tool through the door to get behind the latch?
Good luck. If you had kids this should be easy by now?

The only problem with that is......the moulding is part of the door frame.....and can't be removed.

Of course, try DoubleD's idea first as it sounds foolproof? If not this is yet another way to help?
If you can't remove the overlapping molding then you need to try something like this...
Feed in through the door slit (find a way through) even a thin wire that will reach all the way down to the floor. Once it's on the floor you can pull it through to the outside and you kinda have it now wrapped around the door latch. You have one shot to pull it through while pulling the door open. May take doing it a few times?

DoubleD, I have this funny thought that you & I will be sitting in front of Homeland Security for even using the term (you know) The computers are right now gathering the data? I can see the latch in question being our best defense. We'll get Hogan to defend us :)

If we use Hogan.............we'll be good for 25 to life !!!

You have provoked some more thought on my part. Attacking the latch, lock, plate or hinges(which are covered with some sort of fabric may be the completely wrong approach. There are two 1"X4" vents at the bottom of the door. I should be able to run a wire up through one of them to the interior handle and hook it. I'll try it Sunday when I'm in the marinaand report back. Thanks!

If you use me, you'll be walking around as free as Marty Tankleff!

Great news Hogan, so they'll be out in as early as 17 years!! What a deal! LOL

Hogan, We'll send the retainer to Boatfix. After fixing boats a trial is duck soup.
