Walter your current boat looks great on Yachtworld! I hope it sells it should but who knows in this wierd economy? The Volvos you are looking at seem to have a good reputation over on the Boatdiesel site. I know you will get the proper survey and take engine samples. Properly maintained the motors could outlast both of us!

Billy,
Not many 45c boats around for sale, would prefer a 2007 or 2008. I have spoken to a few owners and they are pretty firm on their price (the ones I liked), will see if that changes come spring. I have one boat I am interested in, boat is not listed anywhere but the owner contacted me. Although the boat is a tad more than I want to spend, it is a bit unique and I get the vibe the owner is as anal as I am.

When the time comes if it comes I will hire Al Prisco to do a complete survey.

I don't expect any traffic or inquiry's till spring, although, being that Mark is going to have a listing and pictures at the NY boat show, you never know.

IMHO, you do what you can or want to do yourself as far as maintenance. You change filters at least as often as the manufacturer suggests and you have the major scheduled items done when you are supposed to and you get the reliability you expect. Guys that say there is nothing to do but change oil etc. tempt fate by ignoring the big stuff.

I had a slip neighbor who had Volvos in his Riviera. They were reliable but like most modern engines, the mechanic needs his laptop to solve certain issues and you will need to know the workarounds to override codes when away from home. Sign of the times, not the engines.

Bob- Unless you don't get a chance to use the boat very much I'm a little surprised to see for your diesels you only list oil & all filters changed once annually , and that pencil zincs are only checked at the same rate. Even my blue gas MPI's spec 50 hr oil & filter change and monthly pencil zinc check (& replace at 1/2 size) , but I'd think 100 hrs would be the max interval spec'd for diesels. But then the analysis would indicate if any anything was wearing or leaking.

Sandy,
Once a season is up to 100 hrs. I usually put 50-60 hrs a year. Being on the Hudson it is mostly brackish water and the zincs tend to last longer in the engine. On the boat is a different story.
