WE crash after the july 4th trip in Riverhead til sept. Treasure cove Marina. There is a Aquarium right next door . It saves some fuel for the conn and blk trips .

Mark, there's a chance we may be at Block or Montauk some of the same days but I'm not set on my dates yet. I should know in a week or so.

Librty landing for the 4th then on to Roundout . From there we go to huntington to bother some people then end in river head. I think we comoe back on the 13th

End of july were doing essex , blk , montauk and greenport. July 26 - aug 10th

I havent done august yet .

We're tentative on the dates but they should not move too much. We have an out of town wedding on 7/26. Obviously a non-boater and my wife's family otherwise I'd send a gift and skip it. :)

I'm combining a fishing club trip to Montauk with a cruising trip to Martha's Vineyard, Cuttyhunk, and Block, at least that's the current plan. I need to coordinate with the club dates so waiting on that.

Yeah, I hear you, my sister got married the first weekend in August a few years back and I was told I had to be there no matter how nice the weather was that weekend ;)
 
Dave, sounds like you've hit all the good kid-friendly spots out east, you'll have to start doing repeats.
 
Not a bad idea, we'd love to see you again. You could go up to Rondout and Catskill for a few days and hit Haverstraw/Stony Point on the way up and back.

Have you thought about the Jersey shore at all?
 
I will discuss with the other boats. After our last experience in Ambrose we sort of are little shy on this area, but hopefully it will be smooth seas!

I'm sure Mike will be back to you, but there is Point Pleasant, Atlantic City, Ocean City and Cape May. All have decent inlets but there are also a few inlets that you want to avoid as well. Beach Haven comes to mind.

The only place I mentioned that we have personally been to by boat is AC which we thought was great. It was a 4.5 hour run for us from the VZ Bridge at 20-22 knts. A dock buddy did Cape May and the canal in his 30 ft Sea Ray and thought it was great.

You should post over on the Jersey forum and see what they suggest. They aren't as active as here but they do respond.
 
Wow. When we came home from Hudson 3 years ago, it took us about 2 hours to go from VZ Bridge to Rockaway Inlet in heavy seas at about 8 knots! I couldn't imagine getting that kind of swell for the run to Jersey.

Walter, Not sure if this is the best run for us considering how misraeble our wives were after the last trip in the Ocean! Let discuss.
 
You may want to look into Red Bank NJ- It's right behind Sandy Hook and most of the trip is in clam water - Wetay at Irwin Marine - 2 block walk to a great town- dogs no issue-
 
We really need to go south, Conn. sucks, block is old, montauk is the same old sh-t, Hudson is nice, but been there done that.

We need to go south, new area...... LI is nice but not my cup of tea anymore.

Looks liek Sandy Hook is just on other side of Ambrose. You can get there and Sea Bright without major ocean. Beyond that you have to go out in Ocean. I am ok with it, if everyone else is!
 
As far as an ocean run is concerned, we were lucky. Going down we had a chop with white caps which made for a bouncy ride. Coming home is was like a sheet of glass.

With an ocean run, you have to be flexible enough in your schedule to stay put if conditions are not good. I've learned my lesson. My wife has final say over go or no-go. That's obviously the result of my deciding to go when we should not have (on more than one occaision).

Saybrook can be ok, just depends on where you are. If you stayed at Between the Bridges or Ragged Rock, it could get a tad rough in the wrong conditions. I know a few people who stay there and havent sadi anything negative about it. You could try the Brewer yard there. I think its called Ferry Point. It is after the 95 bridge so it should be calmer.
As far as fireworks are on the river, not sure about anything except Middletown, which is good, and Portland, which are awesome. Im not saying that because I live there. They are some of the best in the state. The problem is that coming by water kinda sucks. No real place to stay but on the hook.
We were in Sag last year, and they were great. The yachts made a great back round for them. Lots of parties on the big boys, so there was plenty going on. I think we will end up back in Sag for the fourth and then to Block from there. Cant wait till Memorial Day though. We have around 12 boats from our marina that all stay at Mitchell Park. I love that marina.
