48 Sedan Bridge SeaRay

Interesting, Post claims that the current 56 is an inch shy of 56 ft. I've never paced-off a 58. Are you sure your bows are lined up?

Anyway, the 58 began in '05 as the 550DB, so you'd think that when SeaRay started stretching the numbers that they did so by including the extended platform of the 58/580DB. It's not so simple. The 58 has a SHORTER molded-in platform and a big extended platform, so I can't tell how the heck they came up with the designations.

Several times a month, I squeeze into the busiest port in the Great Lakes. LOA is REALLY important there, so it's in my best interest to know exactly how my LOA compares to the numbers on the transom. If they think a boat is longer than it is, they may turn it away for lack of space. If they think it's shorter than it is, you might find the anchor of the guy behind you in the middle of your cockpit.

I have a long pulpit which isn't counted.

Come on my boat and you will see that it is a true 56'(1" missing doesn't matter).

Plus it is 16'11" beam compared to 16' beam in the SR 58. That one foot makes the boat much bigger. Now lets not look at the weight of the 2 boats, there is a big difference there. A big difference.

16' beam on a 58' Sea Ray? Hell my dinky little 48 has a 16' 3" beam!

John you have a big boat I don't think I could afford the fuel!

No doubt, beam makes a huge difference in size of any boat. Another interesting note: Silverton was the first boat manufacturer to exaggerate their beam stats - they make up numbers just to rip off their customers.

(just kidding, but heck, that was fun)

Believe it or not but the fuel burn isn't that bad.

Running 1750 rpm (I top out at 2360ish) I burn approx 66gph getting and average speed of 29 knots.

Do the math and it doesn't come out too bad considering you are pushing over 75000# thru the water.

Oh yeah. All I know is that there is only one marina on the Hudson that can fit all these bis a-- boats in it.

Half Moon Bay? Viking? Liberty Landing? Tarrytown?

Silverton has always under rated the real size of their boats, but hey, guess that did not work so well since they went out of business:) Like Rob said, you need to do your homework when looking at these numbers.

The other side of the river is like a different world. Do you need a passport to get over there?

I notice Penny Bridge is not on that list:) Maybe that should tell you something!

Half Moon-I looked there once when SPBM changed hands. Nice Marina but i believe they were mostly condo's so unless you own, you dont have full rights. (This could have changed.)
Viking and Tarrytown-Not so nice. Tight and don't they have water issues?
Liberty Landing-Anything below the GWB is not really the river anymore. (In my mind)

It is hard to dispute that Haverstraw has way more to offer then all the other river marinas.

Technically, Liberty Landing isn't even on the Hudson River. It is on the Morris Canal. Very interesting place with awesome views and access to Boating areas of all types.

We realize the place isn't for everybody but we love it.

Yes, that they are a small, family run business who care about each and every customer, and treat them all like family. We don't have to worry about transients taking over our marina on weekends and we don't fight about which brand boat is biggest or best.

Mike you just do not know what you are missing..... Then again there is always next year..

Sounds like the Channel Club except we like the transients to come. I have made friends with many of them and a few have taken slips here since the place is so nice and we were so hospitable to them. They have joined our family and are enjoying the beach and the pool and the live music and the tiki bar and heated pool and the good restaurants and the soon to be opened Beach Tavern.

Mike I'm pretty sure you win the biggest contest over there!
thereisno room for anything bigger:)

For the record I'm sure I would be happy there as well heck I was happy at SPBM I had a hard time leaving! Boating is all about family and friends as long as you have both one can be happy anywhere!
