AC 75

Glad the kiwis won... they deserve the Cup. The whole country is behind them. Here in the US nobody cares...

I care
The Italians made too many mistakes.
Friend of mine is a kiwi. He was big time into racing. Lived a while here in the US and then moved back where he became CEO of the power company there.

Glad the kiwis won... they deserve the Cup. The whole country is behind them. Here in the US nobody caresto care when they raced boats / yachts instead of big kites that skimmed the water. It's a gray area. To me, calling these boats is almost like saying those rockets on wheels they break the sound barrier with, are "cars".

It seems that Americans cared more when they raced boats / yachts. Now, it's a gray area. These newest "machines" are like big kites that skim the water. Calling them boats could be like referring to those rockets with wheels that break the sound barrier out in the desert with, as "cars". I think it's fun to watch, but I can see traditionalists being turned off.
Here's a few pics from a few summers ago in Newport aboard a traditional monohull 12M, US-19 "Nefertiti", which was used in the AC defender trials in Newport in 1962. It was deigned for heavy winds, but US-17 "Weatherly" prevailed back then, as it was designed for lighter winds, and winds were light for the trials that year. Weatherly went on to beat Gretel in the AC. Ugly dude at the helm is me.

Royal Squadron YC / Ineos Team UK is the official challenger of record for the next Cup. Preliminary agreement calls for using the same class of boats but teams can only build one instead of two for this last cup

they re also bringing back some form of nationality rule (about time...) with exceptions for those who were on board for this last cup. Can’t have the Dean, Jimmy and the likes suddenly unemployed :)

when the cup left here in '17 they said we are going to to monohulls.....It was all catamarans here...whoda thought they would foil a monohull ! I didn't like that foil arm - too scary for close contact sailing.
