Any one have any guesses on just how crowded Zach's Bay will get for the Airshow Memorial Day weekend?

I was there a couple of years ago. It was crowded but not impossible. This year, I want to see the show from the ocean side. There will be a security zone set up but I think you can see it from further off shore. You can't see the low flying planes from the bay side.

We've been there pretty much every year for the last 8 years (I can't actually think of one we missed) and it's great. The planes not only make low altitude passed over the beach but the fighters always seem to pass right over us in Zachs and give the kids a thrill. The boat traffic is never that bad. Just get there a little early.

Ocean is only good if there is no swell.
I don't need chum on my boat!

Anyone know how well the view of the show is from Tobay?

Never seen the show from that vantage point but I would guess it would be a little far since the show is centered just off the needle at Jones but I'm sure there some passes that start over there.

They buzz down to Tobay. But you won't get the whole show.
You will probably hear them more than you see them.
Best show is in Zachs, I have never been in the ocean for the show and would consider that, but Zachs is nice if you can get situated and anchored.

Anyone going to Zachs, do not attempt the east entrance, I don't think it's passable for any boat.

I've seen it from Zachs but you miss the low flying stuff. The planes fly over the ocean for the benefit of the people on the beach. So you can kind of see the mirror image from the ocean. That's what I plan to do on Sunday. The weather forecast is really nice both days.

Does anyone know how far off shore the safety zone extends? It's not listed in the local notice to mariners. The jonesbeachairshow.com site is incomplete. I found the coordinates of the safety zone from 2005. I guess it will be pretty much the same. I plan to be south of the water tower, just need to figure out how far south to be on the edge of the zone.

If you they fire at you then you are too close :)

Nah. My boat is a COast Guard Facility. I fly a Coast Guard Auxiliary flag.

Michael - If it's calm I'll look for you on the Ocean Sunday. I think the zone restricts you from getting any closer than .5 mile

Hey Dave. Call me on my cell.

.5 mi is pretty close. I just checked with our operations officer and he said as long as I have my CGAux flag, I can hang with the other CG vessels.

Michael,
I have seen the show from the Ocean on two occasions, It is a great place to view it. Don't worry how close you can get, it will be obvious (patrol boats) there is no bad seat in the ocean.
Bring some fishing poles and do some fishing while your there.
