What a great day for a cruise. We packed up the cooler with a great lunch and took off late morning. Came out of the canal in Lindenhurst and turned west in the north channel. Did a nice ride along Copiague, Amityville, and Massapequa with a little sightseeing in some of the canals, under the bridge into Wantagh Park, back around past Zachs, then dropped the anchor in Hemlock Cove for a little while to enjoy a good meal before heading back to Lindenhurst up through the Lindy cut about an hour ahead of the storm.
I couldn't help but notice how many fools were on the water today. Most were anchored in the middle of the channel fishing on a busy Sunday afternoon. I thought the booby prize was going to go to the folks on the hook on the south side of the State Boat channel just east of Tobay enjoying a good swim with the kids as they floated around and enjoyed a cold beer on a hot afternoon while all the boats passed by.
In the end they only placed second.
First prize goes to the knucklehead that was DIW alongside the second red buoy outside of the Lindenhurst pier. I was on plane coming north through the channel heading back in, just as I am approaching the guy he decides to put the boat in gear, pull left into the center of the channel right in front of me, and head back in himself. The guy never looked over his shoulder and I'm sure he still has no idea I was coming. Either that, or I guess he figures they have brakes on these things.
Good thing I was getting ready to slow down before approaching the pier and entering the canal.
He just went on his merry way back in to Surfside3, oblivious to the whole thing.
And here I was hoping that the price of gas would keep some of them home this summer.
Oh well, I guess if a fool can write a big enough check for that big shiney new boat that he has no idea how to operate, he can afford the gas for it.
Anyone else have any good funny ones they can share?
