Anyone have any experience with using Progressive for their boat insurance? Good experiences? Bad?

Use them for both my motorcycle and boat insurance. Rates are good. Luckily haven't had a claim on either so can't really comment on experiences with them.

I had them for a few years. I had to switch to get coverage in the Bahamas for our annual trip. But now they offer it here in MD and I'm considering switching back. I have nothing but good to say about that company. My brother-n-law, who's car got hit by a Progressive-covered driver, was really happy with the way Progressive took care of his damage (even though he's not a Progressive customer).

I use Progressive. I had a motor stolen (Yammie F250 with less than 100 hours) and they had a check in my hands in about 7 days, no hassle.

I was rear-ended by their driver. Claim went well. No injuries just dents.

Five years. Our farm agent who writes some big policies for us suggested them as his firm doesn't do boats. The one experience I did have wa a couple years after insuring my current boat. We had done a lot of improvements and I called to get the specifics on the survey required to raise the agreed value $10,000. They simply did it w/o a survey. I was pleased.

I have had progressive for quit a few years in NY and now Florida,Hunter 36 my RV and two cars,my son had been using my pickup truck for a while some one rear ended him and they totaled it and paid me very good money.
They also replaced the windshield a year ago on one of my cars and even gave me a discount on my boat insurance for no claims, they also insured me when I sailed my Hunter 36 offshore from NY to Florida with 125 miles offshore extended coerage, been very happy with them but no claims on my boat, when I was looking in 2008 they were the only ones that would insure for a 2007 boat over 35 and the rates were better than Boat US.

I have Progressive for my SeaDoo, BoatUS on the boat and State Farm for the house and cars. Progressive had by far the best rate on the SeaDoo - State Farm was 3x's and BoatUS was 50% higher. No issues with Progressive, but no claims either. Even though the boat and SeaDoo are with different carriers, I also have them on my State Farm liability umbrella. It definitely pays to shop around on insurance.

Progressive insured by boat in Pensacola, Fl when Ivan went thru ... they were wonderful ... total claim was in excess of 12K .. they did not argue about anything ... I am still using them!!

Run and run as fast as you can.

Progressive is fine until you want to make a claim.

Progressive is fine when one of their insureds hit your car, but when you go first party and try to get coverage under your own policy, thats another story.

They go by the exact letter of their policy. If you really want to see what you are covered for ask for a full copy of their policy and then get a copy of a Boat US Policy. Compare the two along with any available Optional Riders.

The cheapest rates are not always the way to go. You need to look at their claim history.

I worked in their claims department for 10 years, I never would have them as an insurance carrier. I didn't know one employee that worked with me while I was there, that was insured by Progressive.

Get Boat US Insurance

I don't support companies whose owners are diametrically opposed to my political thinking.

Peter Lewis is the owner. Huge donor to far left causes.

I will not support that no matter how fast they can mail a check to me.

I am an insurance agent and have read the policy.
I have no problems with any of the policy provisions.
I previously had INAMAR, which I believed to be excellent.
The progressive policy is not as good.
But it is half the price.I am willing to assume the risk on certain provisions in order to save money.
There were some policy provisions that were actually better in the progressive policy such as a disapearing deductible.
Yesterday I got my renewal...no increase.
As far as them adhearing to the letter of the contract, that is what they have a legal right to do and you should not expect any company to do differently.

Thanks all for the feedback. The fact that they will insure without a full survey is what originally caught my attention.

Wood, had them on a Dodge dually company truck and on a 35' Cruiser.
In the same year, but not the same date, a tornado hit our lake and totalled the Cruiser, and a tree got blown over in a storm and did $13000 damage to the dually. Couple phone calls in each case, they paid promptly and as agreed, and there was no increase in rates, we were completely satisfied.
By the way, they were not the cheapest for us, but we had heard very good reports about their service, and that is why went with them.

I've got a claim in right now for damage and theft. So I will let you know how it turns out. But the people I have dealt with so far have been friendly and professional. The came to inspect the boat at the time I specified. They brought a copy of the policy and went over it with me so I was clear on what they would and would not cover, and how each item was covered or not covered. So far I am happy with them. My only worry is that because some of the items that I am claiming are 10 years old, that I will not get enough money to replace them.

As a side note, I discovered that money, art, jewelry, fishing equipment and computers are not covered by my policy, but thankfully none of that is on the list of missing items...

Same here. I've had 2 claims, one after Ivan and one from a freak tornado in '07 coming into Bayou Chico. They were "Johnny on the Spot".

But my premiums have increased. I have a 10m Trojan Internattional, 28' Wellcraft Coastal and a 17 Whaler. My premium for all 3 is $4400.00 a year.

I went with them upon buying my new to me boat. I lost a 30 ft SeaRay in IKE and was with another insurance. They paid well but then would not insure in Texas after IKE. So upon purchase of 38' I searched others and found Progressive to have a great deal. I have had them two years now and no problem, but I also have not had a claim. I did have them on my vehicles several years ago and was also always happy.

Progressive is publicly traded on NYSE as PGR. Peter Lewis is Chairman of the Board, not owner, although no doubt he owns PRG stock.

Insurance Company can be great for two years, best company in teh world while collecting your premium, but when yopu have a claim is another.

Run Run Run away from Progressive as far as you can

This is only my opinion, insure at own risk
