It was $850 but he also happened to have an empty spot and was about to leave Florida when I spoke to him

did you ever consider using the auto train? i use it October and March during Bike week.I think Polk is a little more than an hour from Sanford where it lets you off. of course you have to drive to VA. and then accompany the vehicle but it is a very pleasant trip. http://tickets.amtrak.com/itd/amtrak not sure if this works for you.
Our plan is to load up my MIL's car with suitcases and boxes of stuff she wants to bring down to Florida and ship it from Long Island. It worked great for us when we moved down here. I've spoke to a few transport companies and the prices vary from $1100 to $700....all are licensed insured and bonded. I guess I just have to pick one.
Don, check with a couple of regular moving companies that do a lot of NY - Fla. moves. You may get a company that needs to fill a truck. It's been several years now, but I know people who did exactly what you're looking to do. One couple was moving their household stuff from an apartment, and the moving company took both of their cars.
The other guy was only sending down whatever he could cram in to his car, and he got a good price from a moving company.
I don't know if I'd send my Corvette or GTO down on a moving truck, but I'd have no problem shipping the daily drivers that way.

Thanks John...I'll look into that also......luckily we don't need to ship any of her furniture down. The house Deb and I bought her ( in our community ) is completely furnished.....and it has an MOTORHOME GARAGE too.....imagine that 
Thanks Walter..... All the quotes I received so far are from OPEN ( new car style ) carriers. The same style as when I shipped my Suzuki SX4 down. The company that gave me the quote for $1100 said Dec & Jan where the most expensive time of the year to ship.....not so with the other companies....so he is off the list. I'll try to find some closed carriers this week and get quotes.

My inlaws used to be snowbirds, shipping their car on the autotrain. The pickup was just outside Washington and the dropoff was in Jacksonville. One problem was that nothing could be left in the car itself. All luggage had to be in the trunk, a bummer. The last few years they went south for the winter, they had a transporter pick up their car in Brooklyn and drop it in Sunrise. They used various haulers. Don't necessarily go for the lowest price. They did that one year and their car didn't arrive for two weeks! Check with AAA and consumer protection agency before signing. Check on their insurance and try to get a maximum deleivery time. PS. We did the drive twice, with four kids in the car. It took two days and a bottle of aspirin. I drove the entire trip. Otherwise, I probably would have killed one or two of the kids! (Just kidding)

Check with AAA......that's a good point. When I shipped my car down a few years ago....I was able to pack the car tight ( just had to leave the drivers seat open ). They picked the car up at the shopping center ( CVS )in Copiague and dropped it off 4 days later in Daytona at my buddy's house until we arrived in Florida. My wife was thinking of flying up and driving her mom and the car down but figure the cost of fuel, tolls, hotels, meals, wear and tear, etc. and the fact her mom is 78yo and doesn't travel well....we think shipping is the way to go. Plus we just finished a 5500 mile/6 month trip in our motorhome and we are both tired.

Let's say I have a family member that passes away, and they happen to have a big trunk in the car, or maybe they have a pickup truck?? Could I put their body in the car or truck and have it shipped here? Seems like a very efficient way to move a body and a car?

I have what I felt and knew my entire life, a normal friend. One of their parents died (last one) and that deceased lived in FL, but his burial plot was in NY.The deceased was not poor, maybe had a net worth of a million upon death. The children decided to have the deceased cremated and fed ex the ashes??
