Hi again folks,

As a new boater (boating out of Flushing) I want to make sure i'm using the best information possible. So I was wondering what everyone uses as a solid source for weather forecasts and tide information and the such. Right now I'm using Weather Underground for my marine forecasts and Saltwatertides.com for tide info.

Im sorry if this has been covered in the past, but i want to be sure im doing the best i can.

Again, thanks in advance,
dan

Yes.............Dave is our resident NAVIGATION expert !!!!

( sorry........had to )

Yeah, let me know if you need to navigate to Don's wifes bedroom.

NOW.............even I would follow you there !!!

oh man....im way too new to this forum to even inquire on "currentseas" post!

Dan,
We are a group of sick puppies here, you aint seen nothing yet. Just don't be offended, it is done in good fun. Keep posting and asking questions, don't worry about if what you are asking "sounds dumb", there is know one here that was born a great boater. We have all asked "dumb questions", f- up, and still do.

I have been boating all my life, as a kid with my dad, and as an adult for 20 years or so. I learn something new all the time from this site, the only way you will learn is to ask.

PS
Will will kid around with you from time to time, just don't take it personal.

Walter

Yeah...........and don't worry about hurting someones feeling................we don't have any!!

OH YEAH..........as far as F'n- up..........I think some of us do it better then others.... NO names mentioned...........

Dan, I did give two out of 4 good places to look... NOAA and the Sticky ;)

But I have to tell you I was at the bar at the Gull by Burgen Point one afternoon for a burger and beer and found out a bunch of suff back in 02 that helped me a bit aound the bay. So maybe the Bar on the water was not a bad idea...

AS the moderator its my job to keep you all inline.
Remember, talk about anything you like, just keep in boating related.

As for the sticky, LIBI, that was my idea and I appreciate it if people send me updates.
Also send me your name and boat info. Some people print it out so they know RO's names and boats.

As far as kidding, its all just fun, usually someone starts and then its a pile on. Some get more offended than others. Everyone knows my sore spot. Robski and a fresh sore spot. Walter has a sore spot when Don comes over and they hang out in Walter's cabin. Give us time to figure out yours!

Sometimes it can be tough around here to get an actual answer to a real boating question :D But if you wait long enough you might get some info!

This is the link to the NOAA forecasts for our area -

http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/data/Forecasts/FZUS51.KOKX.html

Another good weather source which goes into more detail than NOAA and I'm starting to think is more accurate is this -

http://www.buoyweather.com/index.jsp

Up to 3 day forecasts are free, if you want to go beyond that it's a subscription service.

For tides I use noreast.com, although what your using gets the same info -

http://www.noreast.com/tidesnew/selectlocation.cfm?region_ID=33&IndexHistory=952

As one that recently "f" ed up..... whats the problem.... I recieved an 8hr time out ...... Back in the saddle.....

IS THERE A PROBLEM ????

Rob

Dave...........Maybe you can add a folder for cell phone #'s.............It may be a good idea.....so we can get intouch with each other when we're out on the water

What does everyone think ????

I don't know if publicly posting our cell #'s is a good idea.
I could try posting to a area that is password protected.

I like the cell# idea but it should be protected.

Hey folks,

Trust me, busting my chops is more than welcome.....trust me, i dont/wont take it personally. Life is way too short not to make sure you have fun. I think thats why we all own boats!

Thanks for all the great information. I really appreciate it. And trust me when i say I LOVE the bar idea being that i spend a great amount of time in a bar or at least with beer. Hell, i have 2 different beers on tap at the house at all times!

I'll send my name & boat info over to CurrentSeas shortly, i'm waiting to rename the boat (after i get Waves & Wheels there), then will send it. Current name from when i purchased it is "Basque In The Sun", renaming it to "Big Irish".

I'm looking to take some friends out for a little cruise tomorrow & it looks like it wont be a great day, but it doesnt look terrible either.

When I inevitably do F**k up, i'll be sure to share all the details with you guys. I look forward to meeting you folks......apparantly i especially look forward to meeting Don's wife!

later,
dan

Dan... when u screw up..... Don will there camera in hand... he is the offical parparzzi....

AS for the cell phone thing..... I think if the majority have DSC radios we can and should use the MMSI #'s ..... its very cool feature....

If the majority doesnt ... then I guess plan b... But im not a fan of posting cell #'s... u know that will go bad very quickly.....I would opt out of a public or even passworded cell list.

Rob

Here is my unofficial Cell # U81-I812

But seriously, many of us know each other, maybe not hang out often, but this forum sort of makes you feel you know members, even if you have not physically met them. If you have an Anchor meaning you are a subscriber and help fund this great forum then we can all send private e-mails to each other with our cells. This may be the best way for now and I think it would be a great idea.

I can't create a password protected forum.
I can only password protect the whole LICC, but that will surely get me in trouble!
