Does anybody know anything about this accident in the South bay reported by the San Francisco Chronicle? "S.F. Bay boat collision kills fisherman"

It would be interesting to know about the dynamic of the accident. Who hit whom? The Sea Ray is a big boat and the Whaler is hard to be seen if you are driving from below. Also, on this subject, a friend of mine has the bad habit to put his boat always on auto-pilot and then he turns around to chat with the people sitting on the bridge. I told him many times that it's dangerous and the skipper should always be aware of what is going on around his boat

Yeah, typical article in which the media "sells the sizzle and not the steak"...

They'd rather grab readers with a headline (of death) than fill the article with the facts surrounding the incident.

Even a follow up article would be nice, but alas, there hasn't been one (that I have seen/heard of)...

It's hard to imagine that two boats can collide on a clear day in the Bay without some gross negligence being attached to one of the skipper's.

If I was a bettin' man, I'd go with your idea of an un-manned pilot seat while the auto-pilot was on. And inside the Bay, that is a big no-no!

There is just too much boat traffic...

So tragic for all involved. I hope BUI was not involved.....

Unfortunately we will never know the results of the investigation.
