Costa Concordia

I flew over it yesterday morning. They have the bow pulled out from shore. She looks rough, amazing how fast the sea reclaims her own. I anticipate seeing it again tomorrow. Clouds permitting I will let you know what I see.

They only started the re floating this morning so I doubt the bow had been pulled away from shore yesterday. The plan was to move it a very short distance after re floating today

Amazing, and costly, salvage operation...

I think it's ironic that when you go to the webcam you get ads for cruises!
LOL!

The two tugs appear to only have a strain on the towlines. As stated above, I think the plan was move the wreck about 30 meters off the platform to allow the diver to go under the hull to inspect. I can't tell from the web cam if the wreck has moved. The project web site indicates that the proposed slight move is in progress.

In this case I ll believe Gcaptain over a pair of eyes in a cockpit at FL3xx

http://www.news.com.au/travel/travel-updates/salvage-teams-refloat-the-costa-concordia/story-fnizu68q-1226988377173 Note the time date stamp on the story. That would be 03:53 Rome time on the 14th that the ship was up "2 meteres" off the platform. I seriously doubt the raised it up that far, held a news conference and a story filed that fast,. Which means they were pumping on the 13th.

Oh and we cross Gilio at 18,000 into FCO

Bill that video is too cool. Thanks for sharing it. Amazing...

it does not make sense to put it on a ship to go 150 miles and i think our info is a bit off and geebee is correct watch the video they pulled it so it was nose out

Not that facts mean much here, but G Captain has a very clear time line with times expressed in Eastern Daylight Time, so even yankees can understand it. The move commenced at 0923 E.D.T.

Yes gCaptain says "Update (1:26 a.m. EST): Work to refloat the Costa Concordia kicked off as planned at 6 a.m. CEST (UTC/GMT +1), Salvage Master Nick Sloane reached the Remote Operations Center located on the Costa Concordia with the rest of the team from Titan-Micoperi, according to the project’s website."

All that would be fine except CEST is currently GMT +2 and in any event it is about 3 hours after the Australian article was written in which this quote is made, "The ship is floating and is well balanced. We’re extremely pleased so far,” Franco Porcellacchia, the chief engineer of the project, told reporters as the wrecked vessel - the length of three football fields -- inched upwards on Monday."

GCaptain does not even have the time zone right, let alone can they account for the quote of the chief engineer. But hey, I just report what I see at the site versus some guy at a keyboard who does not know his time zones, what the hell do I know! It would appear gCaptain's time is clear as mud

According to the Twitter feed taken directly from the project website, the movement of the wreck, upon reaching the proposed draft, commenced approximately ten (10) hours prior to this post. Movement of the surrounding support vessels might have given the illusion that the wreck had been shifted away from the shore.

DGAF get it to salvage, chop the sucker up and bury the issue. It's a genuine marvel they have come this far, and made this salvage happen. Hopefully the tourism industry of the island does not suffer any more. More over, hopefully the families of the all of the dead have closure however they can get it. May this movement and scrapping help them all move on.

I have to question this concept that giglio suffered from this... Somehow I can't help thinking they got a lot of publicity which will last for a long time in addition to the direct benefits from all the people who came to giglio in the past 2 years...

I also have to wonder why does everything has to become so complicated... 20 years ago, they d probably have hooked up a couple of th biggest tugs they could find and drive th wreck into deeper water... Nature woudl have taken its course and heeled.

"why does everything has to become so complicated"

People want things to remain the same. They forget that "life" by definition is "change". And there is your conflict.

My guess is "movement" is ready to towing. I think they had this thing off the piers Sunday, rotated it a little bit to check the hull, that would account for the statement by the chief ebgineer. They did the final lift for towing on Monday. Think about it, would you would pop this thing up in a few hours without some serious inspections after initial buoyancy?
