Danfords Inn Marina LI Sound

I'll be headed to Danfords on Friday 7/20 for a few days. Any opinions on Danfords & where to go for lunch, dinner in the area? Good sights to see etc. No kids with us.
 
Steam room across the street, good cheap seafood.
Lots of good restaurants. Village way is good.
Burrito bar.

Danfords is pricey.

Sights? Not much, just walk around. Puppy store is fun if you can handle the smell. Great walk up hill by danfords to belle terre, nice area.
 
Once I hit the Throgs Neck Bridge at 20 knots how long a trip to Danfords? Any bad spots to watch out for? Well marked?

I don't know the area so compared to who else is better. This marina is well rated for a boat my size.
 
Port Jeff is sometimes one of the layover harbors we use when coming back from out East.
It’s about 41 miles from the Throgs neck bridge to the mouth of Port Jeff harbor & about 2 miles through the harbor to Danfords (20+miles to Huntington & 20+ miles to PJ)
In Port Jeff Danfords is the only marina with floating docks for your boat- we were there a couple of months ago we a group for dinner and the food was better than it was in the past-or maybe it was the Martinis!
As Dave said the steam room has good & cheaper seafood- we sometimes take back to the boat from them-
Also as Dave said the village is small and can be walked in an hour or so- this does not include shopping time!

Captain Art, You have a 50 Ton Masters License and your asking this question...shame, shame, shame. Now, I know you probably ment to ask that if you were driving in traffic on the LIE at 20 MPH how long would it take?

All I can do is guess here, but I would say about 4 hours. Its a straight run, nothing to worry about, just run about a mile off shore, no issues, just watch for smaller boats, since a boat your size will be one of the biggest on the water and there is alot of jetskis and sailboats in the area. Once in the harbor, stay in the channel as port jeff harbor has some shallow spots. You will probably suck bottom at danfords with your draft, so watch your temps.
 
Paces Steak House, Pasta Pasta and Salsa Salsa are the three best restaurants in Port Jeff. They are all better than Danfords. Salsa Salsa is a Mexican place that is mostly take out. The other two are excellent sit down restaurants. Right next to danfords is a community center that you can visit.
 
I second Pasta Pasta, if you decide to go make a reservation, they are always packed.
 
MAny good places to eat, as have been mentione. I'll add one more Billy's, more a bar but table service in the back, good pub food.

There is a theater in town do a search, maybe they'll have a good play.

There is a great icecream place there, their small cup is huge.
Remember to keep execution lighthouse to your starboard.
From Dandords Coco's in huntington is close excellent scenery!!

Coco's has closed - its been replaced by 'PRIME' steakhouse - still has docks for tieup
 
Andy,
Do you know if they charge for docking? Coco's charged alot to just have lunch.

We have not been there yet, by land or Sea- but i will look into it
Coco's was getting crazy the last couple of years - the wanted a buck or two a foot just for dinner tie up [:-banghead]

I can see a $2 per ft charge against your food bill so if you go with a 35ft boat your minimum tab is $70. This is not out of reason. Even if I had to pay $120. I'd usually be coming with m at least 4 to 6 people that is easily more then the $120. If it's on top of the bill then it is crazy...But that maybe why they closed?

Most south shore restaurants either don't charge or charge and credit it back to meal.
If they want business they should not just charge, boaters are not made of money!
 
I don't think that most do on the north shore either.

I guess some get greedy when they see boats queued up waiting to get a spot.
