There is only 1 (one)place left to dock & dine in Staten Island (my home port). Docks are giving way to the waterfront condo's etc & there are less & less places to go. I can't understand that with all the waterfront the NY Area has they don't provide a lot more boating facilities? Lots of it goes wasted on neglect. It could be such a major draw for boaters. All the sights & great things to do. It's just an amazing waste of resources for both the City & us.

Plus there is Steamboat Landing in Hempstead Harbor - back under the old management.
We frequent Louie's and have been to City Island twice. The Crab Shell on the CT side seems to be popular. At any of these spots, get there at the wrong time and you will be hovering around waiting for someone to leave.
I am less familiar with the harbors out east.

CT is not North Shore Long Island and alot of those places are pretty far in.

I lived in New Rochelle and docked near Dudleys, not a good place to eat. On the opposite end of the harbor was a place called "the restaurant" they have changed owners over the years. Its also a bit tricky to get into that end of the harbor. JP's in city island is decent with a lot of dock space, you can always dock there and walk elsewheres.
I agree with Steamboat in Glen Cove also very nice scenery. Is Dimaggios still in Port Wash? They had a lot of dock space.

Ok, I will give you that, Fire Island is to the South Shore as CT is to the North Shore, but at least I am still in NY and FI is alot closer than CT.

All kidding aside, I would expect to pay a fee if I did not eat a meal at a dock and dine. I don't expect to pay for dockage over and above the cost of the meal. Which, by the way usually isn't cheap.
Is this unusual or is it me? Danfords has already charged my Credit Card in full for the 2 days at $3.90 a ft and additional $20. a day electric for 2 days based on a reservation I made for mid July. I can understand a hold on the amount but to put the entire charge through this far in advance? It just feels improper.

To my recollection, the food was just ok. Have not been there with this boat that draws a foot more than the old one but I don't recall any depth issues.
We like Louies in Manhassett Bay alot better so that's pretty much where we go if we are taking guests for a meal.

In regard to your reservation issue, I agree it is a little much to charge you this far in advance. I reserved at Montauk Yacht Club for Labor Day weekend in part because they would charge my card 48 hours in advance and Star Island was going to charge my card 14 days in advance of the date. Considering that you can't get an accurate weather forecast for tomorrow let alone a few weeks in advance, it is really annoying.
This is in part why we are trying out the Boat Basin on Block this year instead of Champlin's.
