Winterized my 25 Ray, 7.4 merc yesterday after years of paying someone. Here's what I did. It's raw water cooled. Pulled the drain plugs from the block ( 1 at a time) drained the block, pulled plugs on risers to drain, took thermostat out. Put all drain plugs back in after draining. Poured about 2-2 1/2 gal af into thermo housing till block was filled. Put ear muffs on drive and ducked tape it to prevent it slipping off and spillage of af. Put a length of hose on earmuffs about 6 feet. Pulled water seperator off, ( no signs of water in it) that's what I like to see. Put a mixture of gas and 2 cycle oil in it and reeapplied seperator, Put a pint of crank-stor in oil. Son started motor while I was pouring AF into hose from 6 feet up, ran it for about 3 minutes and 6 gal af later. Disconnected batteries and put charger on them.
Comments welcome.

It's one way. You made it harder than it needed to be, but you did fine.

I just drain and backfill with AF thru the hoses but since you drained the block before running AF that should work. I'd open a block drain, drain a little in a paper cup and put in the freezer to check to be sure, then you can rest easy all winter!

Used a lot of extra anti-freeze that way. Not sure why you filled the block up after draining and then ran the anti-freeze through. Could have just run the engine on anti-freeze after it was drained because there was no water left in the block to dilute it.

I would have just stalled the engine on fogging oil and then drained the block and refilled it with AF. Your are done and it takes less time.

Since you added Crank-Stor to the oil, I would change it in the spring since I am not a fan of any oil additives in a running engine's oil.
