DIY Swimplatform and Stairs

Ok it was bugging me so i did the math. if i did it correctly total weight of the platform stairs and seat is 188# plus the undermount ladder around 15# plus 5# for the acess door and lets say 10# for the hand rail and 1/4" starboard.

This comes out to 218#

The stairs I was look at the synthetic teak products. I might just roll out the non skid paint for now and put real teak or the synthetic teak later. (whent a little over budget)

Any opinions on what would look the best?
 
Seadek has a pretty cool closed cell foam with a pre installed PSA that I got a sample of the other day. The teak is a nice look. I am getting black to do my antiglare area on the dash and will then decide if I want the teak for the platform. My platform would cost about $500 to do in the teak pattern. It's 3x10 roughly. It's pretty soft and comfy too!

Thanks for the progress reports, Nice work.
Your old platform is probably well over 100 lbs.
so not that much of a net gain.
How are you going to attach steps to transom?
 
Almost done

Still need to attach the stair - Some triming to do. I oversized the template so that i could trim it closer where the stairs meet the transom.

Also need to attach the railing and put the remaining supports underneth it and cut the holes for the vents.

Picture is of the seat with the cushion lifted up - plan on using as a cooler or bait/livewell. there is a drain on the bottom

Looks great! you may want to relocate you transom light. What does it weigh complete? Can you post pictures of the mounts when you are done.

It weights around 200 to 220# Yes I definitly have to relocate the light. I have to put the outer support on week and will post so pic's
 
I found the supports to be the hardest part. I added to additional supports this year and I'm much happier. I could never have taken on such a project I very impressed.

Below is a picture of the supports I just finished the other day. The boat go in today so i have not been on it. The platform was pretty ridged with the fist set of support with a little fex at the corner. once the outer support were installed it seem to be very ridged. in looking back the 3 horizontal fiberglass stiffners i think are the key

The fact that you can bolt it directly to the transom must really help but let me know how strong it feels when you stand on the aft most part.

Once again it looks great you did an amazing job.
 
That is one professional looking job. If you ordered it from someone, it would not look half as nice as the job you did. I know you will enjoy using the platform and steps for years to come.

All I can say is WOW!

Very similar setup to how Silverton supports my swim platform.
 
FINAL UPDATE

Other than some caulking and a bracket I want to add were the stairs meet the transome I am final finished. Thank you for all the postive comments.

It was a very time consuming project. I do not know how many hours I put into but there was quite a few weekend nights I was up past 3am working on the fiberglass layup (once you start a layer you can#146;t stop). All the positive comments served as motivation. Thank You!

Below are some pictures at the dock. Now that I am finished below are some pictures of my next project. I would like to add an arch with a hard top over the Aft. In the Aft fiberglass hard top I plan on putting a sun roof. This will just be an opening with a removable canvas top. On top of the hard top I can store the dingy so that I can enjoy the swim platform without having the dingy on the weaver davits. Lastly I have seen this boat painted a dark blue like Sea Rays new boats. I think this will bring the aesthetics up to the 21. This one will take some more pondering.

Hey I have a question for you. What did you use along the edges to round over the inside? I thouht you said caulk, but wouldn't that have a reaction to the gelcoat? I'm about to start a swim platform build and I want to get it right. So if you wouldn't mind i would like to pick your brain a little bit. Could you drop me and email so we can talk?
